"The Prime Minister yesterday said he was targeting a ‘top 50’ ranking for the Bahamas in the World Bank’s ‘ease of doing business’ index within five years, arguing that its current 106th spot does not reflect its capabilities and potential."

But wait isn't he the Minister of Finance?? Doesn't Customs come under the Ministry of Finance???

I guess this is one of those case where he spoke as Prime Minister at one place and acts a Minister of Finance at another.

Oh no, is Perry Christie schizophrenic or does he just speak out of both sides of his mouth?

Economist says...

Good luck with that LBT. Most of the delegates are old enough to be your father and mother.

They are a group of very old "out of touch" individuals. They are clinging to old ideas. They have no idea of how to move this country forward and just want to keep things they way they are, even if that is to continue a downward spiral.

They are incapable of a single new idea.

Economist says...

" Mr Turnquest said someone should still be made to answer Bahamians regarding how the millions invested in the 2014 and 2015 festivals were spent."

Be more direct when you speak because when you by say "someone" you are not putting anyone on the hook to answer. Why not ask the Minister responsible for finance to give the answer?

Stop trying to be polite. You are there to get answers and to make government accountable.

Economist says...

**"The change in plane by British Airways comes after an expansion of the Owen Roberts International Airport in the Cayman Islands, to where the flight continues from Nassau. This three-year $55m development includes a larger terminal to accommodate the higher volume of passengers and a reinforced runway to accommodate the 777. "**

It is very significant to the Cayman Islands economy.

Also, BA is phasing out its 767s so a different aircraft has to be used. The only smaller aircraft they have is the new 787, but it maybe that they feel that Cayman has the numbers to justify a larger aircraft.

Economist says...

He can say anything because he knows that he doesn't mean it and the general public are too stupid (Grade "D" or to dumb to write any BGCSE) to know what he is saying.

It should also be noted that they won't be able to have open market access without the free movement of labour.

HSBC has already announced that they expect to move 1,000 jobs out of the UK to the EU.

Automotive manufactures will, no doubt put any further investment on hold as they may wish to put any new production in EU countries and not in the UK.

British Airways owner, who also control Iberia (Spain's former national airline) and AerLingus (Ireland's former national airline) has said that it will probably move both personal and aircraft out of the UK. The effect will be office, engineering etc. jobs lost in the UK.

The question is not if any, but how many, Brits will lose their jobs over the next 5 years.

Britain is expected now to go into recession rather than continued growth.

Many of the "Leave" voters voted with emotion rather than with their heads. A lesson for us all.

Economist says...

Perhaps the most significant cost will be to the servicing of the UK National debt (take note Bahamas). The UK suffered an immediate downgrade by the International Rating Agencies. The result is the cost of borrowing increases.

It is reported that the additional cost of servicing the National Debt will exceed the current contributions to the EU.

The middle class, educated and the young, who voted to remain, will now have to pay for the actions of the labour class who think the world owes them a living and the elderly (you had to be over 45 to be with the majority of voter for Leave) who have dreams of a British Empire, now long gone.

Economist says...

**"All I want now is to help and if possible to guide the people of this country to see that for the last forty years or so they were hoodwinked and led to vote for leaders who may be good talkers and politicians but were failures in governance, business and otherwise."**

Rather than getting into this childish "tit for tat", please use your wisdom to explain how we can change our work ethic and better our education system and clean up corruption.

**We need wise words as to fixing the economic and social fabric of this country.**

You are in a position to guide us, the people, and to influence the platforms of all the political parties to do what is best for us regardless of who the leaders may be.

**Who leads the FNM should be of no consequence to you.**

Economist says...

"The Centreville MP, who was speaking at the opening of the Inter-American Development Bank’s joint national development plan seminar, said the only way to improve the Bahamas’ current position would be through true self-analysis in the public and private sector."

He said that to please the IDB. He needs them to think he is doing something to help the economy. They are probably paying for the work done on this.

Economist says...

He must be counting on Minnis to beat LBT.
