"Mr Miller backed Super Value owner, Rupert Roberts, who he argued was correct to reject WTO accession despite the heavy criticism he had received for saying so publicly. “The big boys will come here and wipe us all out in the retail sector,”
Ever heard of online shopping Mr. Miller? The Big boy is already here! So while you are losing business other Bahamians are starting freight service companies and hiring the staff that you let go. Just like the Industrial Revolution, things are changing.
Are you going to adjust to the new reality or will you become an ancient relic? Your choice.
Bahamians will have to work abroad in these fields for there to be enough Bahamians for a one off job like this. No doubt the foreign persons do this for a living all over the world and go from place to place. You will probably find a dozen nationalities among them.
If you checked you would see that government has, in the past, owed millions to NIB for rent. They maybe up to date now, but they always used to owe millions. More importantly, many self employed Bahamians did not pay and used the money on themselves. As a result they won't get much, if anything and that is their problem. We as a people must start taking responsibility for our actions and look to blame someone else for our own short comings.
Very good editorial. Of course they are already in the economy and so we should regularize them.
The key is to get the RBDF to do its job. They are the ones who should be sent home. All they do is collect a cheque for doing nothing. The number of Haitians who have made it to Bahamian shores shows that the RBDF does nothing and should be disbanded.
