What Mr. Roberts needs to do is hire a professional who will be able to provide the Bahamas Negotiating Team with the information necessary to provide "reasonable" terms that will allow the paper company to compete. Bahamian businesses, like Mr. Roberts, don't utilize lawyers or accountants to advise in these matters. Foreign companies do and have done for decades. Time that Bahamian businesses joined the real world in the 21st Century.
"Emmmm.......Cove has been in business for over 40 years.......we can't lend to him....he has a worldwide reputation......no, definitely can't lend to him........movie stars and other movie makers use him.....no, looks like he is a good stable business....yup, we don't lend any money in The Bahamas these days.......we just love to keep the economy in a bad state so that we can complain about the country.....don't look to us conduct our business professionally and act as we should..... don't worry the dumb Central Bank of The Bahamas won't say boo.... they don't care about doing their jobs as long as they get paid.....they are not accountable for their actions...so neither are are any of us banks."
Not only do we need to give Bahamians the same investment incentives but to eliminate the brain drain we will need to encourage sensible FDI.
BTW the WTO will require us to offer the same incentives to Bahamians.
There is nothing here for our smart Bahamians to come back to. Old minded thought process, complete resistance to change, feeling that young MUST respect their elders even if that stupid elder is holding them back.
The point is, why should he have to fly to Florida? At the moment The Bahamas is our only market. And we can't even sell our products here for lack of internationally recognized certification.
We have all these tourists. Try getting a Bahamian grown or made food products into the hotels.
The successful Haitians are not coming to The Bahamas. Only the poor, who our Bahamas Defence Force openly allow to come in by the thousands.
The population growth in Haiti far exceeds the ability of any country to expand economic growth to absorb their ever growing population.
