Under the PLP the Attorney Generals staff(I was told by some of them) would prepare writs for people who owed Real Property tax and then when the names got to Cabinet (the same one Mr. Roker was in) the order came down not to proceed further.
This had been going on for several decades the Pindling government.
"From the looks of things, it does not appear so. Therefore, the carnage will continue because we continue to send the message to murderers that they can take the life of others and the state will spare theirs." This man just likes to make statements that he thinks the masses want to hear. He has certainly done no research on the matter.
Look at the US where they have the death penalty. Then look at Canada and Europe. Then compare their murder rates.
You Pastor Moss are as much as anyone, to blame for all the crime. I have yet to hear what social programs you and the rest of the so called churches are doing to correct the situation.
The death penalty is your way of distracting the public from your own short comings.
The problem has been that the government repair and capital jobs have been given to political cronies. The result is very poor workmanship which falls apart when the very next storm comes around. Add to this that the bill to government is inflated.
Result: Sub par work at great expense. Give the work to someone who can do it properly and the cost will not be as much in the long run.
Why should those on a small island suffer because of political corruption.
This article raises many important questions. I would like to add one and that is about the church. It is well known that a large number of under performing students, and that is what they are as they are quite capable of doing much better, come from unwed single mother families.
If you suggest to the clergy that the church provide free condoms to the public, the good reverends have a fit. They must practice abstinence until they get married. The church can't be seen promoting sex like that and so on.
But is not the church supposed to support the community? The church knows as well as anyone else the number of teenage pregnancy's that we have in The Bahamas. They can see the crime statistics which are a direct result of the lack of parenting referred to in this article. They know that the teenage pregnancies have a lot to do with the inability of the mother to provide for her young (sometimes three children before they turn 20.
We must add the churches failure to be relevant. The fact that it has lost its way as its reverand's greed for recognition, money and , in too many circumstance women, is as much to blame for the 'D' average and crime as anyone else.
Why is it much easier to open a bank account in the United States than it is in The Bahamas? Why don't we copy and use the KYC that banks in the US require?

The idea is to keep Bahamians down. A subservient Bahamian will always have to go to the politician. This way the politicians remain in control.
