I support McCartney on this one. But I am wondering if it is coincidental that he is bringing this to the forefront during the same time there is a mass petition circulating around the internet in support of amendments to Article 7 of the Constitution.
I hope there are at least 30,000 or more signatures by the end of this month! At least it would show that Bahamians have awaken and are ready to fight this longstanding misconception about who is entitled to Bahaman citizenship.
John is always quick to quote biblical verses on the fly to support his comments. Yet there is nothing Christian about breaking the laws of a country. You cannot pick and choose which laws you would like to support. Further, I simply don't get it when someone's main argument for NOT supporting the detainment and deportation of illegal immigrants is based on 2 stores on Carmichael Road sales drop. Certainly no one could be that shallow unless there is some ulterior motive.
When all has been said and done. All extreme measures are necessary to protect the interest of Bahamians first. You seem confused about the pros and cons of illegals leaving this country with haste. schools and classes reduced: Excellent!!! I am a teacher by profession and I can tell you that large student numbers in a classroom is not a good environment for learning. clinics will be empty. thank god! i have witnessed many situations where Bahamians had to take a back seat in order to get immediate medical attention, mainly because illegal Haitians jam the place. In many cases these people are sick because they fail to take heed to the advice given by the authorities on ways to practice proper hygiene. The Ministry of Health and public nurses make their rounds in these communities frequently to educate them, but they never listen.. some businesses will scrample to find employmees: You should be ashamed to even mention this, because these businesses are breaking the law by hiring illegals. Hopefully this will force businesses to consider Bahamians. And don't talk about the work ethics of Bahamians because that is irrelevant here. The law is the law!
@Jacknimble: You must understand that illegals do not see the wrong in entering a country and wreaking havoc on a society by breaking all the rules. As a matter of fact, they play the sympathy card very well. These people are ignorant to say the least. They don't follow rules and they don't respect law. And I am not saying this to be mean. I am just stating facts. Everyone knows that an ignorant mind is a dangerous mind. If you give these people an inch they will take 20 miles. They are selfish, rude and have no regard for anyone else or anything. This attitude is embedded in the majority of Haitians! It is apart of their culture. Besides, If you let someone get by with something for a very long time, they will feel that they are entitled to it. In order to reverse this trend, the Bahamas needs to embark on a mass campaign. We must hammer in their heads that having kids in the Bahamas does not guarantee the parent or the child permanent stay in the Bahamas. There is no other way to bring this message across. Fred Mitchel is certainly moving in the right direction. But an aggressive campaign is needed to show illegals and that there is a new day in the Bahamas. The Haitian officials could care less about enlightening their people about any new policies affecting their lives. So it becomes our job to do so.
Two wrongs don't make a right. Bahamians are wrong to travel to the US and overstay their time. But what is the ratio of Bahamians traveling abroad and overstaying their time to that of Haitians entering a country illegally, erecting shacks wherever they please, popping out babies every 8 months, sending all ten of their children to school causing overcrowding, stealing power, eating cats, working voodoo, falsifying documents, shitting on people land, trespassing through people property and the list goes on and on...Wake up and look at the bigger picture. No one is sending children to a country they never know. The children are the responsibility of their parents. They belong wherever their parents reside. Besides,According to the Constitution of Haiti, a Haitian citizen is: Anyone, regardless of where they are born, is considered Haitian if either their mother or father is a native-born citizen of Haiti.
Oh and trust me. I am not making this stuff up. I have had all of this stuff done by Haitians who lived near my property. So I believe I am qualified to elaborate on this subject.

Very interesting argument. And you're right. It really is the politicians that are in the limelight when is comes to lack of trust.
