Pray tell, what is happening to the great bonanza of wealth for Bahamians that should be accompanying all of this prosperity you speak of? Why is our nation's unemployment rate so high, especially among younger Bahamians? Why are so many Bahamian families living at or below the poverty level and struggling to survive in our country today? And lest you forget, Atlantis has been for sale for many years now with no interested buyers knocking on the door because of its poor cash flow situation and enormous capital expenditure needs given its age.
> The PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) accounting firm was hired by the Government to analyse, and calculate, just how much the GBPA owes the Public Treasury for public spending in Freeport that exceeds the tax revenues generated by the city. The GBPA denies that anything is owed, alleging that Freeport contributes around $200m annually in tax revenues.
The corrupt Davis led PLP government continues to foolishly borrow millions of dollars to pay the exorbitant legal fees it has already incurred and will incur in this matter as a result of the bogus report that it commissioned the PWC Bahamas accountants to prepare based on seriously flawed assumptions and incomplete and inaccurate data obtained from the ministry of finance.
One only has to read the ridiculously lengthy terms and conditions that the PWC Bahamas firm insisted be included in its contract with the corrupt Davis led PLP government to understand and appreciate why the accounting firm agreed to accept what it should have known at the very outset would be an incomplete and inaccurate "garbage-in, garbage-out" type report laced with seriously flawed assumptions.
The confidentiality and indemnification terms of the contract are such that PWC only agreed to prepare the report on the condition that government would accept all responsibility and fully indemnify it against any and all unfavourable financial consequences arising from the government's use of the report. The "garbage-in, garbage-out" aspect of the report seems to be the very reason PWC sought to have such a "tight" and all-encompassing guarantee from government that it would suffer no harm or financial loss from lending its name as preparer of the report.
Insiders at Atlantis say it expects to lay off 350+ Bahamians as a result of the revenue losses it will experience from the proposed nearby Nassau Cruise Port water park attraction.
> Simon Wilson, the Ministry of Finance’s financial secretary, could not be reached for comment despite numerous attempts.
Always Angry Simple Simon should be fired now that he has made it known he will never again speak to another reporter at The Tribune unless The Tribune's management and owners fire his nemesis Youri Kemp.
> However, one financial source, speaking on condition of anonymity, questioned whether the lack of detail on the Government’s external funding plans will impress the global capital markets and holders of existing Bahamian sovereign debt.
We all know Neil Hartnell's two favourite and most common financial sources are the extremely greedy, conniving and boisterous Snake and that wannabe politician who is the CEO of Fidelity Bank. And right now Snake and his corrupt cabal are much too busy scheming with our corrupt PM on how to best go about stealing our country's entire energy sector for pennies on the dollar of its true value. So the source is likely the banker wannabe politician.
Meanwhile, our most corrupt PM is indeed working overtime with the greedy Snake and his cabal of marauders to devise a scheme whereby control of our nation's power generation and distribution systems will be transferred into their private hands such that the debts and losses of BPL remain socialized and borne by Bahamian taxpayers and the profits and gains get privatized and put into the pockets of the sinister Snake and his cronies, both local and foreign.
Just think of the irony here. While our nation is struggling to refinance its unsustainable debts, this most corrupt Davis led PLP government is proposing to literally giveaway control of our nation's entire energy sector (a government monopoly) for mere pennies on the dollar with no competing bids to explore, discover and maximize the full value for the Bahamian people. This crazy idea of putting control of BPL and our entire energy sector in Snake's hands for next three decades will result in most Bahamians and their businesses being crushed by sky high unaffordable electricity bills.
The Tribune would have us belief all 30 of the airlifted students were living in the building shown in the photo to this article. Did The Tribune's chief reporter who wrote this article even bother to inquire about the total cost of this airlift which will presumably be borne by Bahamian taxpayers?
All Bahamian taxpayers should tip their hat to the three students who chose to remain in Jamaica.
Will the 30 airlifted students soon be begging to be re-airlifted back to Jamaica at the Bahamian taxpayers' expense?
What is so special about these airlifted students, privileged to be studying abroad, when we literally have hundreds and hundreds of unemployed, homeless and hungry Bahamians living on our streets today?
