I might be off topic but what school was in session on Monday October 12th? I thought that was a holiday. The system crashed Tuesday, which was the first day, but Wednesay it was up. At the moment my child is having lessons on the system. I pray it stays up and the internet and electricity companies behave.
Is there any way we can help these people? Some kind of Go Fund Me. Heaven knows I do not have it like that but what I can give I do. When we are able to move about, let us try to drop off care packages and a little monetary donation to the less fortunate in our communities. We can go on about government all day long but, but our neighbours need us now.
Joe blow I love your comments, but I wanted to add that many government departments do not receive bonuses. You are thinking of quasi government as teachers, nurses and I believe police officers do not receive bonuses. Teachers in particular receive yearly increments until their salaries are capped and stays that way. Nurses on the Family Island that are on call nights and weekends may receive an extra something but no bonus. Carry on.
While we are all grateful that no lives were lost, this has been a long time coming. If you were to ride these smaller airlines to Eleuthera you would have a better understanding of how ill maintained these airplanes are. The last time on this carrier, the plane felt as if it did not want to ascend and was struggling. Atleast they have fixed the constant smell of fuel that this airline usually has. The rattling is so unbelievable that even with headphones turned all the way up, you cannot hear what you are listening to. This company makes anywhere from 3 to 5 trips to North Eleuthera a day and that can increase depending on special occasions. Hopefully this will cause changes.
So we ought to learn other languages in order to watch television in our own country? Not only have they gotten rid off the better channels, as mentioned, many remaining are in Spanish. For goodness sake even some cartoon channels. I guess we better enrol our babies in Spanish classes from birth. I scaled back to basic and use alternative means. The line up is deplorable especially for the price.
I was thinking the same thing. I am sorry, we all wish to know what happened. With that being said, countless crimes including murder, occur right here, and are never solved. Please, people die while in our police custody and the murders are not even solved.
Who pays if they are successful in their suit? I am not saying to not hold BPL accountable. I just do not wish higher electricity bills and an increase in VAT to pay this suit. Furthermore, suing them will defininitely take even more money away from the much needed upgrading of the facilities. A healthier alternative needs to be worked out. Perhaps having them decrease their cost for a few months, customer credits, having them agree to another form of energy. I just know that making them cough up tax payers' monies may not be the best solution. Of course I stand to be corrected.
> When pressed as to why enrolling is necessary for the system to function, as opposed to an automatic alert, Mr Dames replied: "It's not going to just blatantly send out notifications just like that. That's not how it works the world over. You enrol.
I wanted to add that I don't know why Minister Marvin Dames said we had to enrol as it's not going to blatantly automatically send out alerts. I did not enrol to receive any missing children alerts here in America or anywhere else, but because my Android phone has the Emergency Alert Feature activated, I received the alert. Remember I am a Bahamian on vacation in Florida, and they sent an alert to me. I have my regular, prepaid BTC sim card in an I'm roaming on AT&T network. Sorry sir you are ill informed. Please go back and do your research. I even received another alert informing me of the colour of the car the suspect was driving. Its embarrassing to see an official making a statement like that. Just say you don't know or are working on it. It can be sent out automatically via Aliv or BTC, we just need to find out how.
I am overwhelmed as this is long overdue. Interestingly enough, just a few hours ago in my hotel room, here in the States, my phone made a distractingly loud noise and vibrated. It was an Amber alert, notifying me about a missing child. The alert included his description and pertinent information. We in The Bahamas are just playing catch up. I have personally seen a convicted child molester, walk through a school's fair, after his release. He would also be near the bus stop when students got out from school. I am glad that we are actively passing Acts that will protect our children. Every island and community should know about these offenders and have access to their photos. Furthermore, offenders should not be allowed near certain places such as schools and youth centers. Those found near these off limit areas, should face more jail time. Keep moving forward Bahamas.
