There it is, Prime Ministers pretty much admitting the criminality they knowingly allow to happen. For a former Prime Minister to admit his life would be in danger for exposing the corruption afoot is incredible, quite incredible that he'd say it out loud and yet a profoundly sad moment in Bahamian history.
Yeah, why not have six kids when you live in a shanty town, make so much sense. Do these people even think? Now other people are expected to carry the weight of your idiotic decisions.
Until you need a license to reproduce there's nothing that you can really do with these people. Those that shouldn't be having or raising children are continuing to do so and society will suffer the consequences. There is no family planning, future criminals are being born everyday. To make it worse, Nassau is overcrowded with a high cost of living and little opportunity to make ends meet or get ahead, especially for the D or F average youth, combine that with poor family upbringing and cultural decline... it's no wonder they become criminals.
The amount of crime/murder in this small country is atrocious. There are cities with millions of people that only have a fraction of the murder cases that the Bahamas has. Hong Kong has 7.5 Million people and only had 30 murders in 2022. Meanwhile the Bahamas only has 6% of the population of Hong Kong but already almost 50% of their yearly murder cases in just the first 3 weeks of the year.
The murder rate here is comparable to a warzone. Put cameras everywhere, there shouldn't be anywhere for killers to be out of sight. But the real cause is cultural and more difficult to fix.
Last time I visited a new auto dealer they had a RAM pick-up truck selling for $100,000. I don't know who can afford to buy these vehicles, must be government.
