1. I hope those mobile police vans are bullet proof - remember Tivoli Gardens in Jamaica - it is only a matter of time 2. The police department need to get in physical shape for this fight. The majority are obese, unable to physically perform the functions of their job beyond desk duty and walking people to court. We don't need any police officers on desk duty. Their weight speaks to a profound lack of discipline from the top down - and that slouching officer who is always next to Greenslade- does nothing for optics. He might be the most briliant man in the room but his look and body language make him seem utterly clueless and undisciplined. Straighten ya damn back man. At least try to give the appearance of alertness. 3. The police department needs better metrics, better detective training. I have met some bright police officers, but by far I question the intelligence of far too many 4. Nottage and the police seem to think the less information they give out, the better it is. How is that working for you? Bahamians don't need to be in the dark. The names of those shot and their suspected ties to other murders should be made clear. The names of gangs should be known. Keeping people in the dark and ignorant never solved anything- look at the country as a whole. 5. Agencies need a coordinated computer system - Defense Force, Police, Immigration, Family Services and the department of corrections need to be in constant conversation - a certain level of information should be accessible to all. 6. The Police need to update its damn website and use it to disseminate information, get tips etc. That website is a damn embarrassment in this digital age. The inability to maintain it and use it effectively reflects poorly on the police 6. This excuse that its only a few bad apples and if we get those few it will be over is absolute hogwash. This is a living virus and is constantly spawning new delinquents. 7. It is amazing how many gangs are on New Providence. Obviously a lot of splintering going on. Sounds like they have constituencies just like the politicians and can't unite under a leader partly because if you look at the Mad A$$ gang - these so called leaders seem to get kill before they can consolidate anything. 8. Families- stop lying to yourself about where ya bad a$$ children die. This "died at the Princess Margaret Hospital " foolishness in the paper need to stop. While I don't expect you to say "Died in Ms Major yard after being shot on Kemp Road and stumbling there for help" maybe it is time not to say anything. Have a nice weekend my people. Let us hope we all see Monday morning.
Why is this man back in the news? I hope this doesn't mean he is about to be ratified for a seat? He is partially responsible for the mess we find ourselves in and should under NO circumstances be allowed to return to front line politics. His time, chance etc have all passed.
Here here Sheeprunner. Nassau can be represented by 5-10 people And every major island - one member each in order to give the family islands some parity of voice in government and I mean that literally- San Salvador (1) Mayaguana (1) Crooked Island (1) etc. . I don't care if ten people on the island they should have someone to represent their needs that live on that island and can fully represent their interests.
John I am losing faith in judgement. These people you speak of seem immune to the effects of their greed, but maybe its because I just need to "see" their judgement myself and its not for me to witness. I hope you are right.
This is an all out gang war. Someone fighting for some perceived power. No real revelation there. Many of these young men are high school drop outs, gang members, some from ok, but most from not so well situated family lives. Not much in their heads except money, wearing Nike, Hilfiger and Jordans, violence, sex from whomever, getting high and appearing like they have it together. I would go so far to say that many of them are dumb, easily manipulated and if they like to get high, even more easily manipulated. Many of them have already had their fathers, brothers murdered. Look at their facebook pages (my new thing). Start with the "boy" who got killed on the park "Richie" and you see a troubled boy, obsessed with guns and money, either from dealing drugs, robbing people or being paid as a "hitta". I have never seen as much cash he displayed on his page in one place in my life and I am comfortably middle class. Or check the page of "Faddah" the one who got shot on East and Lewis street and you find out that his brother "Ghost" got shot about six months ago. So they are all connected somehow. And then there is a gaggle of young girls who protect them, drink with them, party with them and if they are interested, I presume sleep with them and cry for them when they die. This is pretty much a contained world. Someone sent me a picture the other day where one young man- don't know if he was in a gang or not, but he got buried with his head resting on a Gucci leather pillow and in Gucci vest. I must say the boy looked good, but it was sad that his best dress day was probably in his casket. As much as I think I grew up in the hood- I don't recognize nor can a relate to this group. These are mostly working class and poor people, many though not all, are the children of immigrants, and 97% are gang members. I think the police hopes they just get rid of each other rather than drift in and out of the judicial system. As one person said on a FB page- if they continue at this rate, maybe decent people will be able to sleep with their doors unlocked and their windows open by May. Which only tells you that as tragic as this is, many Bahamians don't care anymore whether they kill each other - and they won't until it spills over and "truly innocent" people are hurt.
Did you not read the article? "Chief Supt Fernander said the young man was known to the police and was in and out of custody for questioning on a number of serious matters." He was a bad ass child, being used and manipulated by slightly older hardened young men. The boy that got killed a few weeks ago was 16 and his brother that got arrested a few days later 20. The already young, bringing in even younger boys into gang life. Two generations of young men of a certain class and race- GONE.
Symonette has the same longings as Trump and should be judged harshly for these telling words- as proudloudandfnm does above. I want us to use the same sword when the darker hued Bahamians say different BS but BS never the less.
This story is a strange one... just saying...Why would anyone try to rob a jogger? How much of value would they have on them? If four dudes have guns, why would they wait for the officer to start shooting, kill one of their friends and then turn themselves in? Something just ain't right. this story isnt passing the sniff test.
