I hope that person is exposed so we can see who among us is willing to sell his people for 30 pieces of silver- 300gs for him and whoever else has cost the bahamian people uncalculated millions! his azz needs to go straight to JAIL after being spat upon and stoned - though not to death in Rawson square. Expose these bastards no matter the political stripe- maybe the people need to go to the international courts since the elite criminal class seem to love cloaking the thieves and treasonous men and women that lie in wait among us disguised as reputable people. I am so sick of this BS. this is why this country is where it is today and not where it should be after fifty years of prosperity. my grandfather always told me that when a decision doesn't make any sense corruption is present. I have no doubt that both parties will have much to answer for.

I agree that the Bahamas is way too expensive but certainly not the worse of the three. The Cubans will have to step up their game- very poor service. The issue in the Bahamas is value for money.

Greentea says...

The product quality at Cable Bahamas is quite poor. Based on that alone- the company should not be allowed to price gauge the bahamian people before competition arrives. BTC and Cable Bahamas should both cease to exist once competition is allowed in the market. We pay far too much for such a poor product and service.

this must be why the union kicked up a fuss and were talked down from the ledge. 100percent government ownership=business as usual. Less than 30 cents per kwh eh? Sir is that with or without the infamous "fuel surcharge"?

Greentea says...

everyone is harping on this 5 million in OT- That is the result of gross mismanagement and understaffing in key skilled areas, over staffing in other unskilled areas and union deals. When things go wrong my guess is that they probably have two to three clutch workers that can fix things which is beyond pathetic. And we should NEVER know their names because some dumb azz would make sure we only have one or none of them after they try to rob them. try get the lights on then. Remember These fellas don't just show up for OT. it's Management that ask them to work OT. But my fellow Bahamians this is a distraction! After you commiserate over this 5 million explain the other 445 million BEC owes. That's hardly OT even if we give them 20 years worth- they still have to explain 350 million. Pure unadulterated corruption and managerial incompetence. these fellas working long hours to keep out dated and overused machinery working. they probably deserve more credit than we give them and the truth is they aren't the decision makers. BEC is a failure for a lot of reasons but OT is only a symptom of much bigger issues.

Electricity generation in this country is a problem that is way beyond the union and Mr Miller. they are both fighting to maintain their relevance. They are both acting selfishly and unreasonably and quite frankly both parties need to go. They are allowed to continue to be a distraction, a side show from the real problems and people we have a serious problem. I would venture to say that the problem of BEC costs this country in dollars more than crime. The fact that in 2014 the Bahamas still cannot provide consistent electrical service at a reasonable price, indicates a failure in leadership for many, many years and on multiple levels. It means that there has been a failure to effectively plan for the growth of the Bahamian population and development, that choices were made by leaders in the highest places not to invest in developing infrastructure. It reeks of years of corruption, political cronyism, a lack of business acumen of those in charge, a complete lack of vision and now we are paying the piper. The fact that the Bahamas pays the highest amount for electricity in the region and cannot guarantee service for a relatively small population is beyond a disgrace and it has very little to do with overtime. miller is counting pennies while hundred dollar bills are washed down the drain and the union is doing what unions do- look out for unsustainable interests negotiated during political seasons. The union has known for years that the infrastructure is ancient and was unsustainable- yet said nothing. I want to know the whole story. Straight. exactly what is this country facing in terms of energy needs? What will it take to solve this energy crisis with a mind at truly fixing - not mending or patching or another damn quick fix- and orienting us towards the future? Why is it that after years of so called prosperity this country seems further behind today?

You know something eMac I visited Haiti last year for the first time and it's not bad if you know you are only visiting. What struck me is that I think I saw ONE pregnant woman the whole time I was there. it was almost strange considering the seemingly high reproduction rate of immigrants in the Bahamas- but then again perhaps not strange at all and quite deliberate.

this is getting interesting. the FNM and PLP are both dealing with succession issues. While i think Rollins and Wells might drop the ball here, these recent rumblings in both parties- suggest a sign of life in the political process. I live in hope that something good might emerge from these battles. Young people- these old heads aren't going to give up power- you have to take it. Either you will play the old game like Fitzgerald and lose the respect, regard and attention of the people (maybe its just me on that one) or stumble out the gates and frankly- land flat on your face - but you have to learn how to pull it together and get up and move on. Rollins, Pintard, Wells, Moss and Cash seem to have the attention of the press- who happily are closer in age - and hopefully concerns to them. Lets see how they use the attention. None of you are lawyers- I think. That has to be a good sign.

Grassroot- Should they sell everything to one group? It is not good for such a small economy to be dependent on the will of a single giant. Who owns the most jobs, own the economy- and the government. They already have Bahamar and now this? It would have been better to ask them to rebuild schools or maybe the College of the Bahamas. One should understand the wisdom - especially in the wake of the 2008 crisis - of a diversified economy- and diversified ownership in that economy. I remember when we thought Japan couldn't lose and where are they today? If China sinks- we should prepare ourselves not to sink with them.

Vince - "I tell them "it's a long, long, long story, a very long story, even the short version is long," that is the funniest and saddest statement I have heard all day. So true. Stay in the fight.
