Who in the Bahamas expects a quick decision to be made by this government? Someone should give Mr. Don Demeritte a prize for his optimism.

The teacher's union is being led by a gangster, and she has been working arduously to get the public on her side. She has preached doom and gloom, and is trying to convince the public that children will begin falling down dead if they are sent to school. That said the government needs to do away with these schools, as they are badly designed and cost a fortune to maintain.

Everyone elses costs will go up by 15%. Why on earth shouldn't insurance companies? Competition should drive the costs of premiums down. Whoever offers a satisfactory level of service at a competitive price will win the business. I don't want to pay an extra 15% either. Perhaps I should request a meeting with the government and just cry them a river.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think the fact that many of these franchise holders are MPs and senior government officials is a big contributor to these delays. Surely it should not take years to craft and develop a new system that would work in the national interest. Shouldn't the interests of bus owners and franchisers be secondary to that? If you can't get the job done Miss Martin, then say so. We want results. Enough excuses. We have had enough of the "falling down the stairs" bull that accompanies this lack of performance!

Well this is rather confusing. On the one hand, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has dismissed these protests, and is reported to have said, “My judgment is that [there] has been no impact and there is no fall-out. This is a matter that is largely confined to Dade County and Broward County in Miami.”

Now we have the Minister of Tourism expressing alarm at the potential harm these protests can cause the nation! Can the government take a unified position on this? These contrasting pronouncements by different members of the government are an obvious and glaring sign that a rift exists and all is not well in the Christie cabinet.

Guy says...

This is unbelievable and speaks to the level of respect the youth of this nation can expect from our current leaders.

I am hoping that politics and personal interests can be put aside, and investment opportunities such as this can be considered based on merit and sustainability. The promise of jobs alone should not be the only consideration for us to hand over our land and resources to persons promising us a pie in the sky. Hopefully, this project is more than a sham to enrich a few at the expense of the masses. I would love to see it materialize only if it is beneficial to all concerned.

What is remarkable is it seems the Finlaysons have absolutely no regard to laws and regulations, evidenced by the fact that at every turn of events a court or regulator must get involved to attempt to keep them in line. The fact that they can cease operations and not pay a single penny to the staff who have a legal entitlement to severance and other redundancy payments blows me away. How in the world are they allowed to continue to show total contempt and disregard to laws in this country? The system and government have a responsibility to protect its citizens and have failed miserably. I don't understand how the court or the Department of labor have not hauled these guys off to jail. The Christie govt, the judiciary and the Finlaysons are all sitting by watching as the former City Market employees starve to death. Where is the justice in that?
