They need to increase the rates for high consumption. Like people who have pools. Poor people should not be subsidizing rich people to fill up their pools. The government should be thanking people who have a well or RO system or a rain water tank. Maybe even encourage people to install rainwater tanks.
Just think every dollar in foreign currency we don’t spend on oil is a dollar we can use for something else. Almost like free money, which is something every Bahamian wants
Invested in government buildings is a joke. NIB owns the Exuma mini hospital and that will never ever generate $1.00 of income for NIB. NIB probably has to pay their BPL bill.
They should know better than to borrow money to pay your water bill that’s just dumb. I live in Exuma and the pipes and no good so we are losing more water than we are using. Now they are paving the road over the no good pipes, that’s just dumb. I have rainwater tanks and my water is better than RO water. I haven’t used a drop of city water in 20 years. The government should be helping Bahamians install solar and rainwater systems in their homes. Reducing our energy imports will be easier than reducing our food imports. There is almost no farming in Exuma anymore is you ask someone to work on a farm and the answer is hell no.
If you do a little reading you will see that oil is not the problem the problem is refining. No one is increasing refining because they think electric cars are coming. So either buy electric cars or pay high gas prices.
So tell me then how many cloudy days with no wind do we have in a year??? Even if we only lowered our fuel bill by 25% that is still serious money every year. Someone needs to ask one of these private islands with solar power for some real world data then we can start a serious discussion.
If they are spending $65 million on Exuma’s airport and Exuma has less than 10,000 residents they should be spending at least $500 million on Freeports airport.
