They should know better than to borrow money to pay your water bill that’s just dumb. I live in Exuma and the pipes and no good so we are losing more water than we are using. Now they are paving the road over the no good pipes, that’s just dumb. I have rainwater tanks and my water is better than RO water. I haven’t used a drop of city water in 20 years. The government should be helping Bahamians install solar and rainwater systems in their homes. Reducing our energy imports will be easier than reducing our food imports. There is almost no farming in Exuma anymore is you ask someone to work on a farm and the answer is hell no.
If you do a little reading you will see that oil is not the problem the problem is refining. No one is increasing refining because they think electric cars are coming. So either buy electric cars or pay high gas prices.
So tell me then how many cloudy days with no wind do we have in a year??? Even if we only lowered our fuel bill by 25% that is still serious money every year. Someone needs to ask one of these private islands with solar power for some real world data then we can start a serious discussion.
If they are spending $65 million on Exuma’s airport and Exuma has less than 10,000 residents they should be spending at least $500 million on Freeports airport.
What we really need is a government that is interested in investing in The Bahamas and Bahamians. Until then you can raise all the taxes you want and nothing will change.
What really is unconscionable is how little the Bahamas makes off the cruise ship industry. Thanks to Airbnb Bahamians can finally participate in the tourist economy.
The Bahamian government maintains nothing. Here in Exuma we have a 15 million dollar hospital, it’s not used as a hospital and not maintained. The a/c hasn’t worked in almost a year. If in the future they decide to use it as a hospital they will have to spend millions doing repairs. Living on a family island you get to see up close how they waste our money.
Maybe BPL is not the answer. We need leaders with vision who are willing to make bold decisions. If someone is not capable of doing the job they need to be replaced.
