It was explained that the 4million in travel expense was increasaed because the ministry of finance put the airlifts, evacuation cost under that "head"; and will included travel to come for civil servants when they send them back GB and ABACO. But, of course a certain political group can always count on its supporters to completely/conveniently disregard facts. I find it very dangerous and irresponsible that people will literally carry on with this narrative that the gov't increase their personal travel budget - which in my opinion is what is being suggested.
These issues are not new to public service pensions. These are issues public pensions across the world have to address on occasion.
Every civil servant getting a pension - from the doorman go up, from the people who is only work from about 10 to 3 and take 3 lunch breaks a day - perhaps that's why conservative governments across the world often to take the hard and unfavorable decision to cut the pubic service down. The government also happens to be one of the largest employers in this country. We already know what happens when you try to cut down the size of the public service around here.
People need to admit and recognize a lot of these civil servants are not up to par. I get your point about management. But, at some point all employees have to be able to work independently and produce. Dont forget we are on strike because we believe we should be entitled to raises that are not performance based!
But, his contribution had nothing to do with the bill. If he doesnt understand it is a revenue stream for the govt and a part of keeping up with international standards, that is problematic.
This is true. Im sure boosting the economy is the goal.
I've been watching and reading the comments. I know its hard to tell people anything when they are struggling but I think people are using the situation to be disingenuous and have selective memory to some extent.
Taking the loan will be a risk for sure, but if we don't take the risk who will. People coming on the TV/internet everyday talking out both sides of their mouth it seems.
It seems conflicting that people will say the government need to take the airport, then in the next breath say well the airport don't make no money and airlifts been down so they need to take the airport and the harbour container port. If the airport open tomorrow, the reality is the situation will remain the same as it did before Dorian, there is nothing for tourist to do in Freeport but drink rum.
It seems like we all have to take a leap and participate if we want revitalization. Foreign investors will probably use this opportunity - meaning the economic situation or desperation - to put money on the ground. Then in a year or 2 when things pick up we are gonna be online complaining but how the government give them everything.
One day a serious conversation may be had about it, but, I think balance and getting a handle on the influx of sloops is an important start to changing the narrative.
