Mr Miller also told Mr Komolafe to “take his black * back to Nigeria” if he can’t “comply” with the government’s stance on NHI’s administration.
Leslie Miller is a National embarrassment. Unfortunately he is the embodiment of many uncoothed, uneducated and xenophobic Bahamians. Miller and the PLP are so well suited. The sad thing is that he is revered by many in his constituency and perhaps even outwith. What does this say about modern Bahamas when someone as course and unethical as Miller can spout such vile diatribe and yet not one cabinet minister from his Party can bring himself (or herself) to denounce him? The man's stance against Mr. Komolafe and the BIA shows Miller up for what he is. From all accounts, Mr. Komolafe is a hard working professional representing his Trade body and its views. He is married to a Bahamian woman, has three children and is apparently well admired in his profession. As far as I am aware, his electricity Bill is up to date and he doesn't have any huge outstanding loan to the Bank of The Bahamas. Sounds to me like an outstanding member of our community unlike some I could mention!
TruePeople - I would go along with your argument if it could be shown that capital punishment is an effective deterrent. It isn't - just look at the state of Texas as an example. Decisive and sometimes brutal action is sometimes required, as in the case of the war against ISIS, but it can only be justified if it produces a positive outcome. Capital punishment does not produce the desired outcome - it simply makes citizens feel better.
Halkitis says of the fiscal deficit - "It is like when you have a boulder running down the hill and you have to first slow it down and then stop it and then push it back up." No doubt Standard and Poor's will be well impressed with this PLP financial wizard's complete grasp of the situation.
Roll up, roll up....sign up for your free healthcare.....everyone's a winner. Vote PLP, you know it makes sense. We'll even throw in a free bet at Island Luck!
He added that the CPSA is afraid to express its “true feelings” on NHI for fear that “the public will say they’re greedy and have no conscience.”
What an absolute hypocrite this man is!!! He and his party have no shame whatsoever. But let's get one thing straight - they are NOT stupid. They are cunning, conniving, greedy, and dishonest but not stupid. you who vote for them are stupid.
Thankfully our physicians are intelligent enough to out maneuver this bunch. If the consultants and the vast majority of general practitioners refuse to sign up for this farce then the government will be forced to back track despite the bluster of propagandists like Gibson. Then the country can sit down and build a properly thought out strategic plan as to how we, together, are going to build a National Health Service that is affordable AND sustainable.
The fact of the matter is: the civilized world is moving away from capital punishment as an option. Statistics prove that it simply does not act as a deterrent. What it would do however is reduce the financial burden on the country of housing convicted murderers. Even if you believe killing another human can be morally justified, and I struggle with that, it would simply not work in the Bahamas because our judicial system is so dysfunctional it would take forever to convict, sentence and then go through the myriad levels of appeal. I doubt there will ever be another state sponsored hanging in The Bahamas because there is no political will to go against the flow of modern thinking. Bran McCartney's plea to resurrect capital punishment is political posturing. Bran is a lawyer and knows full well it ain't gonna happen. It makes a good headline though especially when you are struggling to be relevant.
Mitchell really doesn't understand the reality of the situation. The US Embassy's primary function is to look after its citizens in The Bahamas. End of. Mitchell's nose is out of joint only because the Embassy's action makes government look inept. Tough! There have been plenty warnings - now deal with the problem and stop blaming the US Embassy for doing its job.
