"Mr. Christie said he fears if the project is not restarted in the near future, the cost to complete the hotel would double."
If Mr. Christie had been more neutral and persuaded China not to oppose the Chapter 11 filing then the resort might have been ready to open by now. As it is, this resort will not open in 2016 regardless of the Prime Minister's bluster. Tragic for the 2000 employees and for the country.
The MAB will likely follow the CPSA and refuse to sign up for this totally unworkable scheme. Everyone wants better healthcare for ALL Bahamians but it makes no sense to take away the perfectly good cover enjoyed by 30% of the population and force them to suffer not only an inferior product but a product that government cannot possibly deliver on. Christie and his PLP generals really don't care about hard working Bahamians. They don't mind forcing employers to ditch efficient private health insurance schemes in favour of this looming shambles because it does not affect them. They will get by just fine with their own private insurance and ill gotten gains. They think dangling this carrot in front of the gullible will win them enough votes next May to allow them another five year opportunity to completely empty the cookie jar. they are so wrong. The working class has had enough, civil servants have had enough, the Doctors have had enough. Bahamas had had enough.
Pastor Major said he believes the crime problem is “out of control because “society keeps making excuses for criminals.”
This is part of it but I believe looking at the bigger picture, crime is out of control because Bahamian society has a completely compromised value system brought about by years of corruption at the highest levels of government. Criminality, corruption and vice are now endemic throughout the Bahamas. They have spread like a stage four cancer.
Best wishes to Pastor Major and his family and let's hope they can put this horrible incident behind them and be left to live the rest of their lives in peace. Surely, it's not too much to ask for?
Mrs Hanna-Martin has since announced changes to the industry, including Royal Bahamas Defence Force officers routinely patrolling beaches.
Typical Hanna Martin - reactive and never proactive. Hates to be criticized but what exactly has she contributed as a cabinet minister? You rarely hear her talk on any matter of substance and she simply tows the party line on all matters. Doesn't stand up for women's rights and allows Pothead Miller to get away with ridiculous pronouncements without ever challenging him. Aside from that there are so many Transport matters needing urgent attention. I ask the question again. What is her contribution other than a "nodding head" in cabinet?
PRIME Minister Perry Christie said yesterday there are a “huge number” of internationally recognisable corporate names interested in investing in Baha Mar and he is doing “all he can” to ensure construction is restarted “very soon”.
He really doesn't get it does he? There is now nothing he and his cabinet can do to influence the outcome. There was a time when he could have helped but that moment has gone and the project's fate is now entirely in the hands of the Chinese, just as many of us expected it would. These continued optimistic pronouncements are making Christie look like a fool. The damage has been done - better to say nothing.
Look, Bahamian citizens have more pressing concerns right now than the FNM's internal politics. If Minnis is to be your leader then get behind him. If you don't want him then get him out but do it soon because the country needs a strong an united opposition party heading into election year.
This is classic PLP - the Party that can never bring itself to admit it made a mistake. I'll give government credit for trying something different but let's face it, the Junkanoo Carnival was an expensive boo boo. Now any sensible cabinet would acknowledge that and move on to more pressing matters. But this is the PLP and so we will go through this charade of trying to persuade all and sundry that Junkanoo Carnival is a net earner for the economy. At the end of the day, Christie & Co will use the carnival as a distraction from the government's mishandling of the economy and you can bet your bottom dollar they will be planning an even bigger spend on the event in 2017, right before the election.
Sorry Khaalis but this is bullsh*t They might not tell you that crime is a factor as they leave the door shut behind them but only a fool would think that the increase in serious crime is not one of several serious misgivings foreign investors have with The Bahamas these days. The lunatics are truly running the asylum and former inmates are all on the loose and heavily armed.
