If the local physicians hold firm and refuse to "jump off the cliff in the dark" (which is effectively what the PLP is asking them to do) then this mad, rushed exercise in futility will be dead in its tracks. The Bahamas Insurance Association is leading the way by refusing any further co-operation with this government and the physicians need to do likewise. These jokers are trying to railroad through a major national undertaking using calculations on the back of an envelope from a friendly firm of consultants whose work has been widely discredited. It would be laughable were the implications for the country not so serious. If Christie and the PLP have their way they will kill off a healthy private health insurance industry, reduce the quality of health care for thousands of Bahamians (including civil servants) who are already adequately covered, contribute towards the early retirement of many of our best physicians, force an exodus of many of our best doctors to Florida and other more lucrative jurisdictions, grind the economy into a complete standstill with further taxation to support the madness, risk another rating downgrade and cause higher unemployment as the private sector struggles with an increased tax burden. all for what? all because the plp needs to be seen to be delivering to the gullible on at least one election promise. The physicians are our last hope. Refuse to sign up and force government to look afresh at healthcare in The Bahamas in a sensible and considered way. We all want better care for all of our citizens but this is not the way to go about it.
Everyone needs to vote for the party that can remove the disastrous PLP from any further control over this country. Whether you care for Hubert Minnis or not, the only credible opposition is the FNM. For the sake of the country, the DNA should stand aside in May 2017 as the party is going nowhere and can only split the vote once again. The FNM needs to seriously consider replacing Minnis as he is clearly not a popular choice within or outside of the FNM. Regardless of whether Minnis stays as leader, the electorate MUST vote in the FNM as another five years of PLP mismanagement will spell the end for the country.
"They don't want young , black men to earn an honest living" . Give me a break! It has been reported that there have been at least five such incidents in recent years. Atlantis are simply trying to protect their product. It is nothing to do with racism ALL to do with protecting their guests. If Hanna Martin and the FNM before her had been more pro-active in regulating the industry then we would not be in this position.
So true but Roberts and his band of brothers really don't care about what any of us think of them. They have their spoils, that's all they care about. Of course, if they can tempt the gullible into allowing them another five years to completely empty the cookie jar then even better for them.
Well done to these officers who put their lives on the line to apprehend this heavily armed thug. Now watch how inefficiently the criminal justice system deals with him.
No business that truly cares for its employees will drop its group health cover anytime soon. NHI will only become an option once a proper infrastructure is in place and the employers and employees can clearly understand the level, quality and cost of the service to be provided under the scheme. Before then, government will have to persuade the doctors to take a blind leap of faith and sign up for the unknown. Doctors are educated and have business brains. I can't see many of them signing up for something that could seriously jeopardize their bottom line just to placate a Prime Minister that is desperate to fulfill just one election pledge.
These are troubling times for the FNM and for the country. With the PLP making a complete mess of the economy and with serious crime worsening by the day, the Leader of The Opposition should be hitting bull's eye after bull's eye on the political front. He should be riding high within his Party and be almost a "shoe in" to be next Prime Minister. Is the FNM determined to commit electoral suicide by continuing with a leader who is clearly not inspiring even his own party members far less the wider electorate? The country will not easily forgive the FNM if the party causes the PLP to be handed another five year term. If that happens then The Bahamas will quickly end up being a failed State and the last to leave should kindly turn the lights out.

Sorry but I thought the PLP's last manifesto promised that the party had the answer to ending violent crime?
