Like all PLP politicians Hanna Martin over reacts to valid criticism. She must be one of the most ineffectual ministers. Rarely speaks out on anything of substance and secretly wishes she had the courage of LBT.
The Commissioner of Police can only apprehend criminals after the fact. Most Bahamians believe he is doing a decent enough job on that score. Government is falling down because we have too many illegal guns in the country, an administration of justice system that is simply not working. We have a biased and incompetent Attorney General, a court system that is a shambles, prosecutors unable to bring perpetrators to justice in a timely fashion leading to too many thugs out on bail. How many murderers have been prosecuted since the PLP came to power in 2012 versus the number of murders that have taken place during the same time? This is where government is failing. Christie et al are looking for a scapegoat and the Commissioner is an easy target. Having said that, if the Commissioner has been given a mandate to implement tough new measures then the public expects to see evidence of these measures being implemented.
The empty towers will stand as a testament to the greed, duplicity and incompetence of this PLP administration. We can only hope that those who should have known better, but were foolish enough to vote for the PLP last time round, will put the country out of its misery next May and send these jokers into political oblivion.
Educate anyone you come into contact with about the reality of what this government is doing to the country. If we all do this then hopefully even the masses will turn against this bunch of incompetent charlatans.
Excellent Editorial from the Tribune and here's hoping Bahamians at large, and especially the doctors, follow this lead and refuse to register with this scheme until the government explains exactly how it will work, exactly what will be covered and exactly how much it will cost. When all is revealed and openly discussed AND if all stakeholders (including us the people) agree that it will be good for the country THEN and only THEN should government move forward. THAT is what would happen in a healthy democracy!
At least the good Reverend Moss is trying to do something to arrest the problem unlike our clueless government. The country waits with baited breath for the roll out of the latest crime strategies promised by our Dear Leader Christie in November. Maybe the strategy is to continue to undermine Commissioner Greenslade and let him be the fall guy. Still no rebuke for Keith Bell for his disgraceful comments about the Commissioner a few months back.
“Since July 2014, there have been five sexual assaults of US citizens by Jet Ski operators in Nassau".
This is a national disgrace. Why has Hanna Martin not done something about this sooner? Why does it take a US Advisory to prompt government into action? If these jet ski operators can't be properly regulated then they need to be banned from Cabbage Beach and other beach areas. Tourists are entitled to spend a day on the beach without being menaced by these low life characters.
Perry Christie possesses not a single shred of credibility. His public utterances over the last few years, and in particular over the last six months, indicate that he has completely lost all sense of rationality. nothing he says can be trusted any longer. He and his cabinet are incapable of progressing ANY initiative. They are becoming desperate now as the May 2017 election draws ever closer. The frenzied push towards NHI without any meaningful public consultation and a lack of proper costing just illustrates how desperate they are. The electorate will judge the PLP harshly next May on their two major failings of crime and jobs. They promised that they had solutions to both and they lied. Unfortunately they have time to cause terminal damage to the economy in the months they have remaining. At this point, the only hope is that Bahamian doctors refuse to sign up for this NHI "illusion" and set it aside until a more responsible government takes charge.
