"The prime minister said he has taken “a major commitment not to place on the economy of the Bahamas a burden that the economy cannot accommodate”.

Christie is about to destroy the private health insurance industry forcing the 50% who have effective health care arrangements into accepting a dumbed down and poorly serviced product. Ordinary hard working Bahamians, including thousands of civil servants, will lose their valuable private health cover and, in time, will be forced to suffer substantial increases in taxation to fund the black hole that will be NHI. Other developed countries in the world with mature National Health Schemes are encountering MAJOR problems in making the numbers work. The electorate is being asked to accept that the PLP can make NHI work in The Bahamas!!!! This party could not run a corner shop far less NHI. It is surely time for Bahamian doctors to put an end to this scheme and refuse to sign up - the whole exercise is a face saving farce to try and protect the reputation of a government that has abused the privilege of office. Christie, in the name of God, go now - do not inflict any more pain on the good people of The Bahamas.

Ha,ha,ha........that was funny! Excellent post Cornell.

Wayne Munroe with his recent comments has demonstrated that he is unworthy to hold the title of Queen's Councilor. These titles are given out far too easily in The Bahamas.

Throughout the world China is seeking to increase its influence by doing deals with corruptible politicians. They seem to have found good bedmates in The Bahamas.

Sad to say but anyone who stays out after midnight in New Providence takes their life in their hands.

Share your sentiments Franklyn but both you and I know, the PLP will cling onto power until the last moment. That's how they roll.

Pit Bulls and other dangerous breeds should be banned throughout The Bahamas. End of.

Now it begins! The American tourists love affair with Cuba. If we had clever politicians instead of the self serving bunch we are currently stuck with, The Bahamas would have prepared for this contingency several years ago. Now, it is too late. Americans will flock to Cuba in their droves and why not? There is so much to see and so much culture to experience in that country. Contrast that with what we have to offer in New Providence.

Look, there is no confusion. Civil Servants will be paying the same money in the short term for a grossly inferior service. They can also expect crowded waiting rooms, lengthy waits for appointments, many of our best doctors retired or relocated to Florida, a new batch of doctors from the Third World with limited command of English and who are prepared to work for low pay, no more access to Stateside medical consultants. Oh and don't forget the regular increases in NIB contributions to fund the growing demands of patients. So there you have it civil servants but please don't be confused.

"This scenario does not make for the quick construction completion and opening desired by Mr Christie and his Government, and the window for doing so prior to a likely May 2017 general election is closing rapidly."

The "Beijing Palace" will not open in time to save Christie and the PLP. The government has screwed up royally here and is paying the price for its duplicity. Unfortunately, hard working Bahamians will also pay the price.

We are also going to suffer as, in a desperate attempt to save face, the PLP forces through an unworkable NHI scheme destroying a perfectly good Private Health Insurance Industry in the process. Civil Servants are now finally coming to realize that they are going to have to suffer a greatly reduced health care service once this scheme is implemented.

Thankfully, the PLP only has another 17 months left to abuse its power. Sadly, there "won't be much left on the carcass" once the vultures have had their way.

Fred Mitchell needs to understand that first and foremost he is a paid civil servant and that he and his Department are required to uphold the law of the land. Immigration Department abused its powers in this case and Mitchell needs to accept the Supreme Court's decision and amend its Gestapo-Like operating procedures accordingly. Maybe Fred, like his Buddy Wayne, would have liked to have seen Mr. Rufa have his @ss flogged into the bargain.
