Refreshingly honest but the country needs someone to talk tough on crime and propose some tough and unpopular crime fighting strategies. Everyone knows that crime is out of control and that the PLP has absolutely no clue how to deal with it. What would Minnis do if he was Prime Minister? Just saying "I ain't gonna lie" isn't enough. What drastic measures would you introduce Dr. Minnis to remove the armed thugs from our streets?
I am tired of hearing that he is a decent man. It is time the Bahamas had a strong Commissioner of Police, one who will not allow himself to be manipulated by politicians. I agree with previous posters that this Commissioner has lost the faith of the public. Serious crime and the perception of serious crime is up on every reasonable barometric measure. Nothing this Commissioner can say about trends will pacify a public that is at the end of its rope on crime.
Wouldn't it be great if The Bahamas had a real Government with a real leader with real moral fibre? Wouldn't it be great if those elected into high office by the people actually served the people and accounted freely and openly to the people? Wouldn't it be great if PGC simply admitted that he is not up to the job, announced his retirement and called an early General Election?
They are just pure greedy and believe that their wealth will insulate them. Many of them are regular church attenders too and read the same scriptures we all do about the folly of trying to serve both God and mammon. Christians? Don't make me laugh.
Regardless of who is behind the bringing forward of the convention date, this is a good move by the FNM. The obvious disharmony between the Party leader and his deputy has been undermining the party's effectiveness. It is time now for the leadership issue to be resolved once and for all and for the country to get behind whoever is confirmed. This country needs a credible alternative to this train wreck of an administration. I believe that LBT has been out maneuvered and will fail in her bid to lead the party. My money is on Minnis to prevail.
Don't hold your breath waiting for an explanation everyone - it will not be forthcoming. Mr. Wells was "reported to be in good spirits and not concerned by the controversy". What does that tell us? Clearly a deal has been done with Wells in return for his silence. This is how the PLP rolls folks.
I don't think PGC has any intention of making a public statement on this matter. The official opposition and the media needs to keep on his case but I predict that he will simply ignore all future calls for clarity. This is a prime example of a political leader holding his people in utter contempt. Shame on the Prime Minister and shame on this excuse for a government.
Hubert Minnis is perfectly entitled to call an early convention. Isn't it overdue in any case? It is time for LBT to either put up or shut up. Frankly, I think she has lost a lot of supporters these last few months with her constant undermining of the Party leader. This is a smart move by Minnis and a sensible one.
