This is what we get when money that should be spent on new plant is used instead to put friends and cronies in BEC positions that are not needed. The position is exacerbated by an accounts receivable position that is much higher than it should be because of lax collection practices applied to said friends and cronies. The PLP won't dare tackle the issue - will the next government in three years time?
Unbelievable! This bunch of incompetents are going to charge VAT on insurance (which is a product that that consumers should be encouraged to purchase) and exempt VAT on web-shop gambling (a practice any responsible government should be trying to discourage) Once again, vested interests being favoured. What a morally bankrupt country we live in.
I agree with Sheeprunner that we need a "brand new political culture in cabinet". Unfortunately, this won't happen until we have an effective Freedom of Information Act in place. This administration has absolutely no interest in introducing such an Act for obvious reasons.
So the PLP is proposing to impose NHI on top of all this suffering? Empty rhetoric. The next three years is going to be painful for the average Bahamian. There is going to be a lot of anger once the impact of this new tax starts to be felt. The PLP's last desperate bid to cling to power will be to try and persuade the gullible that NHI is about to be implemented. Of course, it won't be but the party will dangle this in front of the illiterate as a carrot with the pledge that it will be implemented if they are re-elected. Thankfully, with the help of excellent journalists in both main newspapers this administration's ineptitude and corruption is being well and truly exposed. Thankfully even dyed in the wool yellow shirts are finally recognising that their blind loyalty has cost the country dearly. The PM needs to resign now but he and his party will cling desperately to power until the last minute of the last day. That's how they roll.
This administration goes from one scandal to another. The PLP is reaching new heights for incompetence, corruption and dysfunction. Is there anyone out there other than serial apologist Birdie Strachan, who thinks they have even a grain of credibility left?
