Christie's comments are lamentable. As a result of the forthcoming VAT, government's unwillingness to reign in the tax dodgers and deal with its own corrupt practices, unemployment can only increase during the remainder of his tenure as PM. You don't have to be a genius to work that out. The next three years are going to be tough for ordinary Bahamians. Those in the PLP inner circle will do just fine however.
One is supposed to seek legitimate financing - that is what one is supposed to do. One is supposed to behave in accordance with conduct becoming of a member of Parliament and asking a BEC cashier to accept $100,000 in cash is NOT acceptable behavior. Surely you must understand this?
Yep, we all feel a lot safer with Dr.Nottage's calm reassurance. Don't let a couple of drive by shootings with multiple injuries persuade you otherwise. The media are forever blowing things out of proportion!
This is why we ordinary Bahamians are having to face the prospect of a punitive VAT regime next year. The rules don't apply to the privileged elite political class do they?
On the Geoff Lloyd radio show this evening it was stated that Leslie Miller has just paid in an amount of $100,000 towards his outstanding debt to B.E.C. The question that has to be asked is why did it take revelations in the two daily newspapers to persuade Mr. Miller to make this payment? If Mr. Miller had the money then why did he not use it to reduce his debt without being prompted? As Chairman of B.E.C. he ought to have realized that his chairmanship was compromised by this inordinate debt to the Corporation. We can only hope that the debt has not simply been transferred to another government entity.
The arrogance of these politicians is beyond the pale. They treat the electorate with utter contempt with their unwillingness to abide by the laws of the land and then we wonder why The Bahamas is such a lawless country? We ask perfectly legitimate questions of our politicians such as how much will NHI cost to implement and we are told by Shane Gibson to effectively mind our own business, that we will be told all in good time. I guess we have to mind our own business too with his non-declaration under the Public Disclosure Act? Why do Bahamians continue to re-elect politicians who disregard our rights like this? It's akin to a wife who continually returns to an abusive husband. Why don't we respect ourselves more and kick these abusers out of the House?
Looks like Cable Bahamas have pulled the plug again on World Cup soccer on channel 8. Can't believe how badly they are treating regular subscribers. You shouldn't have to purchase a sports package to watch the biggest sporting event in the world. Poor show.
