“The civil servants’ pension system is unsustainable,” the IMF warned three years’ ago. We are looking at the last days of useless PLP and FNM administrations. Soon the IMF will be running the show and at that point we will see the elimination of the non-contributory civil service pension scheme. Davis knows the current scheme is unsustainable but won't act as he will prefer that the IMF takes the blame.

The IMF will soon be dictating Bahamian economic policy. It is inevitable. The IMF will force government to slash public sector jobs and salary levels.

The PLP and FNM between them have taken us to the economic precipice. With National debt now in the region of 100% of GDP, the PLP is by its very nature, incapable of taking the harsh economic measures needed to "right the ship". So, as many predict, it will be left to the IMF to bail us out and thereafter force on government the measures that are necessary but politically unpalatable. It is coming folks. I give it 12 - 24 months.

This "project" was no more than a blatant election gimmick to try and squeeze a few more votes. It is a shame that families had their hopes raised in such a callous manner. I expect that the Davis administration will let the project die a natural death once a provisional assessment is conducted as to the real cost and practicality of this development going ahead.

He came to power with the pledge that his FNM would be so different from the Christie administration, that he would herald in a government that was truly for the people, a government that would be transparent and intolerant of any corrupt practices. Instead Minnis treated the people with contempt and regarded journalists as the enemy. He and the FNM might have gotten another term because of the exceptional circumstances of Dorian and Covid but he was ultimately voted out because the voters saw him as a complete hypocrite. Diss the voting public and you are out - it's quite straight forward.

Honestman says...

The FNM deserve to be in opposition for continuing to support Minnis when it was clear years ago that he was not Prime Minister material.

Applying your logic, the Italians should demolish the coliseum because of the atrocities committed there. However, Italy preserves the amphitheater because it is part of its history. a country moves into a dangerous place when it starts to cancel History. History, good or bad, is to be learned from not cancelled.

Honestman says...

Minnis has been poor in opposition and poor in government. He has displayed few qualities needed to be an effective leader during his 9 years in office. The FNM needs a "new broom" - someone who has big ideas and who can communicate and empathize with the voting public. The FNM brought electoral defeat on itself because party members could not see what ordinary folks could see years ago i.e. that Minnis was totally unsuited to lead the country.

Spot on Naughty. This is the PLP resorting to type after only a few weeks in office. If you are a "made man" in Mafia parlance then no one can call "foul" against you. In any remotely ethical organisation, Fitzgerald would not be allowed anywhere near the corridors of power. A definite early own goal by the Davis administration.

The Prospect Ridge project should be scrapped in favour of a new initiative that gives ALL young Bahamians a chance to get on the housing ladder, not just a select group.
