Well said DonAnthony. I really hope Bahamians turn out in huge numbers, protest peacefully and that Bay Street is brought to a complete standstill for the afternoon.
That's unfair. I am sure you will find that thousands on Friday's march did not vote PLP. The PLP won the government with only 43% of the vote if I am correct. They only won because the opposition vote was split. I have no sympathy for those who voted PLP and should have known better but they were in the minority.
The PLP are really getting desperate now. I mean raising this BTC issue from the archives just shows you how much they are running scared. They know they have only a few more months left of raiding the nation's cookie jar but don't let that stop them with a late Property Tax grab on "selected" homes and businesses (for that read homes and businesses belonging to those who are not part of the PLP family). They are facing a "wipeout" and they know it.
You are right Dreamer. This is not a march in support of Unionisation. This is a march in support of honest and transparent governance. This is a march to let the Chinese and Web shop sponsored PLP know that the People are the employers of those in government - not the other way around.
Bahamians need to be vigilant and make sure that this is a purely peaceful protest. The power of a huge peaceful protest cannot be over-estimated. We need a big turnout to encourage hard working Bahamians that their voices are important and to force this government to re-think its attitude towards the the people it is supposed to serve.
There is no doubt in my mind that the FNM will form the government come May 2017. Aside from regular populist soundbites, Bran hasn't raised the DNA's profile to a level that would suggest the DNA has a realistic chance of breaking through into government. I would have been less certain of this had Bran had been able to persuade such as D'Aguilar, Lloyd and Dames to join the DNA. Why was he not able to do so? The PLP will be wiped out next May - I agree that much with Leslie Miller.
This old chestnut continues to be resurrected whenever crime is perceived to be out of control. It is time to forget about it and concentrate on measures that we CAN take without the need to go through years and years of appeals process. Let start with sacking the PLP and the ineffective Elison Greenslade. Let's allocate some of that VAT income to build new prison blocks at Fox Hill. Then let's recruit a crime Tzar from outside of The Bahamas if necessary who will take these murderous punks off of our streets using as much force as is needed. Finally, we need to appoint an impartial and independent Attorney General who will oversee the complete revamping of our judicial system. This will also cost significant funds. But hanging? Please, let this go.
"The government of the Bahamas did not agree to any such proposition,” he told the House of Assembly yesterday, “did not consider any such proposition, it did not come before the government as a proposal, and it would not have reached the government because it would have been rejected outright."
What a load of baloney! This is Christie trying to play cute. Does anyone honestly believe that the Prime Minister and other senior figures in Cabinet had no inkling of this well developed proposal? Yet again he tries to treat the electorate like dummies. A likely scenario is that this was part of the wider deal between China and the government over Baha Mar. Christie knowing that neither he nor his government could afford to be associated with such a treasonous deal this side of the election, could have set up the hapless Alfred Gray to be the fall guy in the event of the deal being leaked. This is how the Mafia operates. The 'Don" orchestrates but is never directly linked to "the crime".
