I am guessing that the Tribune approached Minnis for comment on this depressing landmark as opposed to Minnis raising the issue. Be that as it may, Minnis is quoted as saying "We must be saved and to be saved this administration must be voted out". The fact is we will NOT be saved if the new government (and Prime Minister) is as rudderless, visionless and untrustworthy as the current one. We need a strong leader and a strong alternative government whose foundation is based on total transparency and accountability - nothing less. The people would be more impressed with the FNM if they were to come out and insist that they will introduce a Freedom if Information Act within the first two years of coming to power AND promise that they will insist that every member of Parliament discloses their personal wealth (as they are required to by Law.). Minnis does not come across as the strong leader that the electorate is craving for - the perception is that he is a PLP in a red shirt. This we do not need!
Why don't all those FNM's who have had enough of Minnis leave to join the DNA on condition that Bran holds a convention whereby all positions are democratically elected?
I repeat "Minnis has no political instincts whatsoever" and THAT cannot be taught. I am not advocating for anyone else at this moment but crossing my fingers and toes that someone credible will step forward.
The Chinese are much too smart (devious?) for Christie and his jokey cabinet. The pea brained PLP government has been completely out smarted and WE The People have to suffer. Well that is the price you pay when you vote without engaging your brain. Maybe next year, Bahamians will think a bit more carefully before trusting with their vote to those who cannot be trusted. I agree that the Chinese have no intention of selling the resort to anyone outside of China. The PLP has completely mishandled the situation and has ended up with much egg on its face.
we the public still believe that he is going in the right direction.
Sorry, but I think you are misjudging the situation. Few people I speak to with FNM leanings believe Minnis is heading in the right direction. I think the prevailing mood is that he is not cutting it as leader of the Opposition and is incapable of cutting it. It is time for the good Doctor to look out his stethoscope and get back to doing what he was trained to do. Minnis has no political instincts whatsoever and the FNM's credibility is diminishing by the day. Doctor Minnis needs to go NOW and give the FNM and the country a chance of survival. Six more years of Christie and his cohorts really would result in the Bahamas heading toward a failed State. I don't believe I am being over dramatic in saying this.
Great letter KB and sums up today's Bahamas perfectly. The majority of our politicians, particularly those currently holding government positions, are a disgrace to the country with their cheating, thieving and devious ways. They have the moral conscience of "pond life" and yet there are ignorant and gullible Bahamians who vote for them time and time again because they think they are voting for "their people" who will "see them right". Is there any hope for this nation with this prehistoric mentality so prevalent?
This incident just serves to illustrate the level of courage many of our police officers display on a daily basis. They really put their lives on the line for their country. On the other side of the spectrum we have our sleazy and corrupt politicians who are happy to rape and pillage the country in order to feather their own grubby little nests.
As I understand it, the legislation does not call for NHI to be mandatory. You will still be able to maintain your private health insurance but you will be taxed for NHI whether you use it or not. The big challenge for government will come when they force civil servants to switch over to NHI. All hell will break loose at that point. There is no way they will risk this prior to May 2017.
