I live abroad and daily read stories like this and my heart sinks. When I was visting home over the Christmas holidays I had to take Wulff road to get back to the Eastern area during Junkanoo and was pleasantly surprised and happy to see the many police patrolling in the very early hours of the morning. I will be frank, driving with 2 females in the car I was concerned about the drive home, but once I saw the many police cars actively surveying the area I was comforted. Why does this not occur around the "war zone" that has become Kemp Rd. As a child I was warned of the Kemp Rd area, how is it that as a young adult this is still the story?

Even more disturbing is the 5 second response when the victim called the police "Shooting?" and then the dial tone.

Please I know we invest money in the infrastructure of the country, but there will be no countrymen or tourists left to enjoy the new and improved Bahamas if crime is not taken in hand. Please, all the money being thrown around how about we throw a couple million to the police and defense force and hire/train quality officers, increase their numbers, and give them top notch technical support.

This is a frequent argument I have about the media as well. There is no accountability or pride in their work in my opinion.

Ridiculous! He admits to a 14 y.o. and 15 y.o. coming into the bed with him, but that was no sex? This sounds like a case of Michael Jackson. When is it ever appropriate for a 14 y.o. and 15 y.o. to sleep in the bed with a grown man? I can attest I have never slept in the bed with my father ever.

He should have directed them back to their own bedrooms if that was the case, but notice he didn't say that did he?

Those girls slept in his bed and he had intercourse with them. That is obvious!

Terminating them if they disrupt the carifta games? They need to be terminated for disrupting power to the Bahamian people on a regular day/night. The high unemployment in this country should make these BEC employees be grateful they even still have jobs. I'm sure if they are fired their jobs will be easily filled, particularly with Fred Mitchell pushing for on the job training of unqualified Bahamians. Keep playing BEC, keep playing!

no where on the planet do employees not pay toward their health insurance or their pension. This is absolute rubbish! They been used to slackness too long!

We need to face facts as a people. As quite a few of you have mentioned above, our nation is undereducated! Not only are we undereducated, but it is compounded with an attitude that they should have/deserve to have everything that an education and hardwork affords.

The reason why the Bahamas has done so well, and by that I mean became independent, and became a majority rule country, is because the poor/have nots made sure that they got an education. Education is the only vehicle out of poverty. Many of the doctors, lawyers, politicians, accountants, teachers, professors in this town that have experienced success many times over were prior residents of the "over the hill" communities. Many of them coming from single parent, substance abuse homes, and homes where the mom/dad was a waiter, maid and the like.

I find it deplorable to think that I must ask a business owner to pay 2 people to do 1 job (the person who knows what they are doing and the understudy being paid to learn and producing an environment where no profit will become of it). It is not the job of the employer to hire someone without skills applicable for the job to train them, that's why advertisements with qualifications needs and why resumes and references are required.

Also ironic, is Mr. Christie and co. asking to institute a "national training program" that is supposed to last 1 year....sounds a lot to me like the 52 week job program, created and executed by the FNM,....something that the PLP was staunchly against that we as a country, apparently and according to the PLP, could not afford.

Many businesses that participated in the 52 week job program stated that many of the workers were lazy, drama creating, late to work, unproductive, etc. Many didn't show up for work for weeks, but came to pick up their check.

If Bahamians want the job, go and get qualified for it. Many of them would die before they got their GEDs, or some other technical training, but yet they want their MP to find them a JOB. We need accountability and we need better education.

I was just having a conversation with a friend last night on this very issue. It is highly disturbing to think that shantytowns exist in our Bahamaland and to know that people are aware of them.

Illegal immigration should be dealt with. Many people don't want to deal with the immigrant population because its 'expensive'. Well the squalor that these people live in will produce future citizens of this country that have no faith and no love in their land. A coup d' etat is imminent in the near future whether people want to admit that or not. The mere fact that fire engines could not enter the mud because of the violent behavior of the illegal residents is only the beginning. When one lives in a savage environment, their mentality is savage.

Either civilize/socialize them, deport those here illegally, or reap the hell that will reign on this country as their population grows.

Butler-Turner needs to learn how to walk the fine line of bipartisanship when one is in the such as a minority as the FNM is. Realistically how can she expect Griffin to have a handle on a situation that happened on a Friday, give me a break! To also sensationalize a crime such as rape is also the worst thing I can imagine, and by a female too?!

Furthermore, as a female professional she needs to learn how to walk the fine line of asserting oneself, being aggressive, and acting in a feminine manner. There is an art to it, a finesse learned by experience. Someone needs to sit her down and have a firm talking to.....Ahem Dr. Minnis, go get ya pitbull...it is loose and running rampant in the streets without a leash!

I went back and found the original article that Farrakhan speaks of, and I do agree that once again another article is reported and written poorly. The only thing that can come from Farrakkan's lawsuit is due diligence from reporters in reporting what is said.

I disagree with Farrakhan in his remarks that the media twisted his words, because it seemed to report verbatim without any deductive reasoning, as most of the articles are typically reported. It was just a long rant of quotes that the reporter hoped we would be able to decipher after rereading it multiple times.

Personally, I don't see what was offensive about what Farrakhan said because his speech was nothing but disjointed ideas that would take multiple replays and a translator of the inner workings of his mind so as to understand.

In this case the Tribune lucked up as Farrakhan is an idiot where this is not the first time he has complained of someone twisting his words, however I think this is a serious enough action to make the Tribune pay attention to what many people often complain about, poor journalism.

I think this is a very dangerous enterprise that the government is partaking in. This is why we have so many Bahamians in positions that they are unqualified for and the business and level of service is diminished. An attitude is fostered that I don't need to get the right qualifications, that I just need to flash my passport.

If a Bahamian wants the job then go get qualified to do the job, i.e. go to get the proper training in a school/internship. This is a global practice nationwide. How do you suppose a Bahamian living abroad gets a job over a native citizen? They only get the job because they have skills that a native citizen does not possess, because they have to pay for them to get a work permit too.

It is not up to a private business to hire someone to train them to do the job. That is a waste of time and money. If I hire a person to do a job, I hire them to do the job, not for me and them to do it.

go get qualified bahamians!!! Stop expecting to get a job just because you are a Bahamian.
