I agree with you on the political creature piece about Cash, but the heavy handedness did not happen overnight. Don't forget Miller has been meeting with the union to my recollection since January in many "civilized" meetings. As a chairman you have to make executive decisions. His executive decision ended up in a mass demonstration.
Mr. Miller, if this powerful, incessant demonstratig is truly about victimization, reinstate the woman and your shift system and let's see what the uproar is really about. These people are not demostrating for that 1 dismissed worker this is about the stopping of their paychecks being 2-3X what they should be. Put the ownership back on these nuts.
You know I am a hard FNM, but Mr. Cash you are unfortunately taking the political side here and you are wrong!
The majority of Bahamians PLP, FNM, and DNA are on the side of Miller because he is doing the right thing. Dr. Minnis has been trying to be bipartisan and has acknowledged wrong doing in the days of the FNM and he has been mightily trying to do what is right by those acknowledgements. You are only making those efforts by Dr. Minnis take a step back with political banter.
Doing the right thing takes leadership and the making of unpopular decisions. You should ask our former eminence the Rt. Hon Hubert A. Ingraham about that. People may have described him as "Hubiggety", but a lot of the pigheadedness got the job done during unpopular times.
I'm pulling for Mr. Leslie Miller, not the PLP. Go Miller Go!
Rodney, these are clearly publicity stunts. We understand that you care about police brutality, but do you think in this small Bahamas that the police are going to brutalize you or anyone nearby while you are present? Think again. If you want to catch them red-handed send someone in with a hidden camera, otherwise you getting purposely arrested does nothing for the inmates besides protect them for the wee little bit of hours that you are in there, waste my taxpayer money whenever you end up in court, and only add to the reason many ignore you for your eccentric ideas and actions.
I and many people do not have a problem with the remarks alluding to hiring Bahamians that are qualified to do the job. What I think many people who apply for work permits are having issue with is the work permit being denied because the government is so caught up with the "Bahamian 1st" campaign that they are ludicrously expecting a private company to hire an unqualified Bahamian and do on the job training for a job that may require significant skills/degree in order to work independently, so the employer ends up paying 2 people to do a job that 1 should be able to perform. This is not a means to increase revenue.
I do not deny that there are many instances when qualified Bahamians are applying for the job and not being hired, yes that should be dealt with accordingly.
Another issue that many people are not mentioning is that many young Bahamians are returning from abroad with many advanced degrees and not being hired by Bahamians because they fear job security. The person at times who never even acquired a Bachelor's degree is doing a job that a person with a Master's should be doing, does have, and whom did apply for the position.
We need to look at all the issues of job acquisition in our country.
While your points are well taken. The Board of Directors have involved the union all along the way. The union has been intolerate and uncompromising. I and many people think it is unheard of for a person to not have to pay health insurance or pension, you and I (the Bahamian population) are paying that for them (as the "strength of the government" you refer to) on top of us the consumers having to deal with exorbitant energy prices that cushion their twice and thrice salaries.
Deadlines have been made, but the union and majority of the workers have been uncooperative and their disruptive behavior has Mr. Miller pandering to them in his attempts to be understanding and to keep the peace. This pandering is happening because of what you simply put "love thy neighbor as thy self".
If this were a private company, these shenanigans wouldn't even exist. A deadline for the new changes would be made and they would be implemented by the said date.
Why whatever do you mean Brave I thought the unemployment rate was supposd to be zero by now. Liar, liar, pants on FIRE!!! Stop blaming the previous government for you and the PLP administration's inadequacies the statue of limitations has run out on that.
LOL This is Bahamian biggity at its best I must say. BEC workers are out of control!! Arrest these animals as Islander242 calls them and I have to agree if you threaten me by hitting at my car who's to say you wouldn't break the car window and injure me, run dem over!
I also agree with B_I_D show them militancy, bring in the RBDF!
Let's go Leslie Millier! I'm a big FNM, but right is right. I'm on Miller's side. Get 'em. Fire these people and get people in there who want to work. Miller you seem like a true leader, continue as such sir. Implement the shift system today! In the words of the union, not tomorrow, today. Stop this overtime. Everytime the current is turned off without evidenced cause, fire all those on shift. We'll see how much our neighbor is responsible for each other's actions then.
Don't worry about the support of the union, you have the support of the Bahamian people, the true bosses of BEC...and we say to fire them! Miller has been very patient and has tried to negotiate with idiots who only want to delay the process. You gave them a chance Miller, now its your time.
