This woman is as guilty as the day is long. If she was abroad and an officer told her she was going the wrong way on a one way street she would have politely said, "oh I'm sorry" and commence to right her wrongdoing. Where does this woman get off arguing with the police over an obvious wrong? This is what is wrong with Bahamians and then we wonder why the police gets gruff with us. The officers appropriately warned her that if she did not comply that she would get a ticket. The nice part is that they warned her, but this foolish woman didn't see the courtesy of that.
The chain of events appears to be police warn you of wrongdoing-->woman gets upset that someone told her what to do-->police warn again of the wrongdoing and commence to have her removed for causing a public disturbance-->woman gets even more angered because now she is being physically handled---woman fights with a police officer---> then sustains injuries as a result of being subdued. She receives the proper charges and hence the proper punishment.
bahamians! Rules were made to be followed! People of authority should be respected and obeyed! If you disagree follow what the officer is telling you and then report the said offier to the police. There is a protocol for disagreement.
This can't be the same government who made it a top priority when they first took office to highlight the high amount of irresponsible spending and borrowing of the FNM's needed projects. They also made it a high priority to explain how we are in more debt than thought, and all the hullabaloo from Standard and Poor's.
Now we want to spend for something that you do when there is a surplus? You know, I'm all for increasing the monies that MPs get to spend in their constituencies, but at the present time I am NOT for the increase in salary and benefits. These people knew what they signed up for when they ran for election. Again, addressing salary and benefit additions should be done with a surplus budget.
I agree with the many above me who recommended that Government house be used for entertaining international guests. Stop comparing our country and our dealings to others. We have one of the best economies in the region at the moment. I would think that many of those countries with PM/presidential residences wish that they could get the monies back on those residences for their economy.
And parliamentary building?!! We need a new, beautiful, hospitable downtown first! Get real. Oh and yeah that pesky job thing to decrease the unemployment rate we need some of them too!
Tell 'em Mr. Chipman! These ministers must stop and prioritize. Why did they "release" the previous head posts from their contracts? Why not let them stay on until new post appointments were made? Too much party politics going on. And why not have the new posts meet with the old posts so that some training of how to do things occurs.
It seems to me that the editor reported everything correctly as evidenced by Mother Pratt's response. I do believe Mr. Mitchell has an issue belonging to the party with idotic ideas and actions and thus would be the target of criticism. Gone are the days when you can dictate what does and does not get reported. And since you mention racism Mr. Mitchell you should thus be familiar with the term freedom and its applicability to the press.
While I agree with the minister from Fox Hill, this is not a venture that is in dire need at this time. I believe that current infrastructural needs of the country should be addressed first. I believe that we have been doing that with the new airport and roadworks projects.
I do feel that monies at the current moment should be directed toward increasing general population employment and conservative spending should be the goal.
While I do agree with the idea of investing now for the future, the next future major project should be upgrading downtown Nassau and creating more in the entertainment portion of the tourism industry. We can make alot of money in this venture as well as increasing cultural displays that would encourage young people to go into this industry and encourage tourists to come to see what's different about our country.
Awesome opportunity for Bahamian students and overall for the country, particularly with the developing relationship of improving agriculture and fishing. Way to go Mr. Mitchell.
Its all wasted money. Nobody enforced rules. Suspension from selling items from a stall should be expected when one does not pay the bill. There are electricity and other bills that have to be paid.
The problem is that now you have a bill that was allowed to go unpaid for an indefinite period of time and is nowt too high to be paid by the little man. If I recall when the new straw market opened, the vendors were not allowed to get a stall without paying for the business licenses and without being current. What has happened almost a year ago now? Why was the bill allowed to be run so high until a suspension/eviction occurred?
Enforcing rules helps the poor man too. Now if only we could get this NIB report.....By the way it is unheard of for any reputable accounting firm to not know when they will have an audit ready. We all live by deadlines. Is the accounting firm at fault or is the government at fault? Perhaps the government has the report and just doesn't know how they will deal with what was found. I suppose that will come out next year sometime or when Cargill's lawyer files another court action.
How about someone with a degree in urban planning? I wonder what innovative ideas such a qualified person could concoct? Maybe even support green technology in the process. Hmmm....here's hoping.

Agreed, Concerned. I understand the concept that living in London is expensive, but $30,000 per month. Hmmm didn't realize we had Bahamian royalty.
