I'm with you TalRussell. This is wasteful madness! I had to make myself read pass the first few lines. And in Inagua, how many people will see this? We are not in a surplus and we are not in a time where the country doesn't have other issues that need to be addressed.
Sir Arthur, use your time and lobbying efforts more wisely please.
I'm stating what high admnistrative officials and professors tell you behind closed doors. I have no axe against COB, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
It would help to know that the man is mentally challenged with an IQ of 61 as said by Dr. Harry Ferere. Also, that the whole scheme was the brother-in-law's idea. Please I beg of you, please do responsible investigative reporting.
There is so much wrong with COB from the top on down. People complain about COB's fees, but these fees are much lower than most private high schools in the Bahamas. People complain about not having the proper faculty to teach the courses, how about raising enough money in order to attract appropriate level professors. The students complain about the fees and other costs, how many alumni donate money to the school's endowment? Is there even an endowment set up?
University status? These people have got to be kidding.
Looking to save money....look to the financiers that run COB, make sure you check their pockets on the way out daily because that's where the money is going. Stealing is rampant in that place.
The nepotism that goes on in that place is unbelievable! And research? get a life! COB has run off some of most talented young Bahamians with PhDs I've ever seen. They have run them off and frustrate them due to the envy that they could never be as good as those coming home. They delay paying a new employee for months on end and sabotage any research capabilities.
Most of the students there are the same ones with D and F averages on the BGCSE. Most of them should be looking for trade schools. I'd challenge you to find the majority of them with actual high school diplomas, again many have certificates. Just the last night on the news a girl is complaining about having to maintain a minimum of 12 credits in a semester to maintain her scholarship, my dear that is a basic level college course load. And college prep, that has no room in a proper college/university.
COB needs a major overhaul! The government's cuts, should be the last thing people complain about and the government should not be the major contributor to the college anyway. If they want the school to be a state run school then fine, continue to protest the government's cuts, but allow the government to have a say. COB wants to run itself as private institution without acknowledging the help from government that they need to survive. I have never in my life heard of students on full scholarships, receiving a stipend, and only being asked to maintain a 3.0 GPA. COB and the government want to upgrade to world status...hmpf! They all need a reality check. A world class education is expensive, this is the complaint of the world.
I could go on, but alas this is getting to be too long.
As a health professional, I fear that the unhealthy foods will not be taxed and the healthy ones will be. This has been documented to increase the health disparity in the lower socioeconomic populations.
I hope we take this under consideration when considering which foods will be exempt.
Also, 15% seems a bit high on already high priced foods. Does this mean that the price of the foods will come down to accomodate this VAT? I always thought that the food was highly priced to pay for the tax that the grocery stores had to pay. Would hate to see a bottle of OJ go from $9.00 to $10.35. OJ people, OJ.....tha'ts not even counting inflation and minimum wage was raised when? I see a gouge coming.
The next time you all see a 3 year old little boy behaving in a feminine manner try and tell yourselves he chose that at 3 years old, just try and see how idiotic it sounds. The next time you are attracted to the opposite sex, think about if you couldn't make that feeling known, or act on the impulse of attraction in a physical way. You will see how difficult it is rebuke that instinctual feeling.
We may not like their flamboyance, shoot I don't like to hear the flamboyant, ignorant, krass heterosexual male comments hurled at me when I walk down a street, but hey I have to endure them because they are heterosexual and acting out their 'natural' attraction that has been accepted in our society. I couldn't imagine being sexual with a person of the same sex, just as much as they likely can't imagine being with a person of the opposite sex. So the argument of encouraging young boys to follow homosexual lifestyles is ludacrous.
Slavery was also in the Bible, for all of you about to evoke the word of God into this, but I don't see us going back to the Massa' to take us back as slaves because the word of God says so. And don't talk to me about old vs. new testament, to me that is the same as back in the day versus today. And don't we live in today?
This is not the time to criticize this man. Have you ever wondered why people would choose something that everyone hates and ostracizes? No sane person would ever do that, I'm happy that Centino is open and accepting of himself and his homosexuality, you are born that way! Look at what demonizing homosexuality has done, it has driven people like Eddie Long to live secret lives.
If you notice Centino did not go on national television in the US to talk of the abuse he endured, he was revealed as a 5th accuser. The news has forced him to come out and discuss it and if he wants to do so in a book, that's his perogative. And look, he decided to reveal the book here in the Bahamas, do you think his sales and exposure would have been better in the Bahamas, a homophobic nation, or in the US? Its a no brainer. I believe he is genuine in his claims and motives.
Good luck Centino, life is hard and Lord knows its harder on the ostracized like yourself, but the Lord lifts the persecuted. Hold strong, and your faith will return. The church is a vehicle for God run by flawed humans. Stay with God, and never let a person turn you away from your Father.
Not picking sides, and clearly I'm not involved in the legal system, but how does anyone get bail when they have been sentenced? I thought you so straight from the court to the jail to begin the sentence.
