I'm not the biggest fan of Island Luck and the number's peeps but there isn't anything Historic left on this location, if someone wanted to preserve a small piece of the hotel it could have been done before implosion. Same as building The Pointe on an old Fort site, mind you even that was probably destroyed after it was filled in etc over the past 100+ years. Just fill it in and cover it with concrete & tar that seems to be the name of the game nowadays.
Guess that's why I can't offer anyone a ride nowadays. They get in your car packing and everyone goes to jail...no thanks...you getting searched before getting in my vehicle.
Agreed. The caliber of driving here seems to be getting worse and worse. Not as many imports racing around anymore but people are blowing through red lights like nobody's business, overtaking on blind corners and making their own rules island wide. Unfortunately with most of these incidents, its the passengers that get severely injured.
So if the govt was supposed to review the Business License fee after VAT introduction, and VAT has been bringing in more $$ than expected...should the businesses just send in $100 and a note for the PLP to figure the rest out?
Ok but who's going to book the people for red-light running etc. I think traffic cams would be a mistake and unnecessary addition but since very few get caught for running lights, speeding, and reckless driving what are we going to base "points" on? Heavy tints and broken tail lights?
Big difference between "came to the Bahamas last year" - could be 3 weeks ago, and "no reports of bedbugs in the room in the more than one year since her stay."
What about all the other issues relating to taxing based on turnover and not profits etc. Looking through the Tribune Archive it seems like there was a lot of talk between Jan-March 2016 (when business license fee was due) but not much thereafter...with an election coming I would guess we'll just hear a few more promises, and "reviews."
At least its not destroying the natural environment like they let them do in Bimini for Resort's World. Ocean Cay sounds like a perfect cruise port if its all deep water nearby and wouldn't/couldn't be used for anything else. . While I agree that cruise ports near existing communities would be great for local stimulus we can't have both sides of the coin. MSC could always decide they don't want a cruise port here if it has to be off Whale Point or Stella Maris for example, so at least they are investing in some regard with Ocean Cay and hopefully the MSC Academy is beneficial for Bahamians.
