At least its not destroying the natural environment like they let them do in Bimini for Resort's World. Ocean Cay sounds like a perfect cruise port if its all deep water nearby and wouldn't/couldn't be used for anything else. . While I agree that cruise ports near existing communities would be great for local stimulus we can't have both sides of the coin. MSC could always decide they don't want a cruise port here if it has to be off Whale Point or Stella Maris for example, so at least they are investing in some regard with Ocean Cay and hopefully the MSC Academy is beneficial for Bahamians.
Someone brought this up on the airwaves yesterday. Apparently you'll have to file for a credit on the non-recoverable VAT but filing for credits usually leads to automatic audits of everything so it sounds like a load of fun.
$60 Million you say...wowzers..I'm all for economic stimulus but when the Dept. of Inland Revenue is issuing a shake down on Bahamian businesses while letting 60 million slip away things seem a bit disproportional...
For the most part Florida has a drop-off further away from the beach than us. Previous beach restoration projects in FL I've seen, they suck the sand from offshore through pipes pulling it onto the beach. Since they have a shallow sloping bottom to the ocean, if they've run out of sand they are in trouble.
Sounds like Natural Dune Formation. If you push it back down you make it more susceptible to be sucked out in destructive waves. Problem is everyone has their picture perfect idea of a beach but its not what mother nature wants. You need seaweed, rocks, gravel, and dunes for a proper beach cycle.
Does it really matter at this point in time. We're talking about temporary jobs for the most part. Lets focus on where the VAT $$ is going, why we're spending another $20 million on Clifton cleanup after $10 million was allocated and "somehow" used in Jan 2015. Lets focus on getting a refund on those Christmas Decorations by Arawak Cay.

Compare that to Paradise Island where 1/4 mile offshore the water is 600ft deep. We wouldn't be able to do the same as they do in FL.
