Get rid of the many double dippers in government who are clogging up the system and some of which are intentionally preventing others from promotions. To be clear I'm referring to those who retired from one government agency and currently receiving FULL pension and a FULL salary AGAIN from government. Start with that!
We have a nursing shortage because in recent years they changed from an associates to a bachelors degree program. So now it takes basically 5 years + plus the COB/UB bureaucracy, the postponement of courses from one semester to another, adding classes that were not included at the outset etc. etc.... which can run into an additional year or two. Stick 3 more years on that and you can be an MD.
If the need and demand is so great and the desire is to have Bahamian nurses, the initial training should be an Associates in Science Degree (2 1/2 -3yrs MAX and into the work place. Later on If they want to specialize, teach, or do management then they can pursue a bachelors or masters.
Crossing the street without using a pedestrian crossing is J-Walking and if im not mistaken is on the books in the Bahamas. In some US States the driver who stops to let a pedestrian cross the street where there's no pedestrian crossing and that pedestrian gets injured or killed, is charged with the death or injury.
I know their intent was to assist but folks have to stop this practice.
In another daily Munroe said that Smith should be compensated for the arrest. Well I ask Munroe what makes Smith soooo different than any other "innocent" citizen arrested because of being suspected and spending 48hrs in a stink, musty cell, with known criminals, + the inconvenience of your time, embarrassment incurred and not to mention the employer that's probably now looking at you with a critical eye? I suppose the government would have billions to pay out.....Oh I forgot he's a public figure.
Maybe your article should be about employers paying people enough to not have to moonlight. Maybe your article should be about making it mandatory that all employers have health, dental and vision insurance for all employees.
Also ,maybe your article could be more balanced in that the interest of both the employer and employee i.e the employee can become fatigued because of sleep pattern issues, family issues etc....
Hopefully you do follow these blogs. My question is concerning repossessed homes and lots. How is it that Banks and insurance companies that sell repossessed homes and land are allowed to sell for the worth of the home as opposed to selling it for what's owed on the homes?
I think its unfair to consumers and if the remaining payment is $80,000 that should be the cost to the consumer and 200+ thousand.
I agree that if there's monies owing that people should pay. However as the minister seeks to recoup these funds I ask that he bares in mind why there might be funds owing. Many many college graduates are unable to find a job because of the following reasons;
(a) A number of businesses turn down college graduates because they either don't want to pay or cannot afford to pay qualified people. Some persons have been told point blank, "I cant afford to pay you",
(b) In many government agencies old retired persons have been brought back to work or consult, clogging the system, preventing the promotion of those currently employed which would in turn create vacancies for new qualified persons to be employed who could have otherwise opted to stay abroad rather than returning home to "give back" only to be disappointed.
(c) in 2015 2000 persons lost their jobs in one day!! Many of these persons were not re-employed.
(d) What about those owing who reside in Grand Bahama where persons can barely keep the electricity on because of a lack of employment.?
So again while I understand 156 million is good chunk, your threat may have just added undue anxiety to the many who genuinely cannot repay! Don't forget to be human in your quest!!
