Persons now working full time are finding themselves unable to make ends meet. Foods gone up gas gone up and everything else going under. Businesses are also suffering because most of the increases in the prices they sell do not stay with the businesses. So where does ‘inflation money go? The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And the homeless endemic in this country is just festering. A lot of people who got behind on rent/mortgage payments are finding out that because of inflation are finding out the get cannot keep w current bills much less catch up on the bills that are behind.

What is the purpose of these Tribune ads which do not reflect life or ordinary people in The Bahamas. Are the messages subliminal because the images are not usual

Keith Bell is providing daily to be an uneducated clown. An economic idiot. It appears he has taken this livable wage idea and will attempt to force it down the throats of employers. This clown needs to sit down and learn basic economics. For example when he cost of labor goes up, so does the cost of goods and services produced. And if labor costs increase too much, they will be closures of businesses, layoffs and increased unemployment. When things are not in equilibrium, there can be inflation or recession.

John says...

Livable wage may be ‘household income,’ but if you are the only person in the household, then it is your income. And as a case in point, many professional people are leaving the state of California because of the cost of living. Many people in Freeport earn , on average, Bette than workers in Nassau but their standard of living is not much better because the cost of living in Freeport is much higher. Was it by design that workers in Grand Bahama could barely manage to survive, even when holding managerial positions? The double taxation for some vs duty free for some. And ion New Providence, the tourist industry is pushing up the cost of living for Bahamians, yet the most concessions are given to businesses operating in that industry. They have it revers. Tourism should be the most highly taxed industry in The Bahamas. But for the half half century, at least, local Bahamians were subsidizing the tourist industry.

And is the Health Minister trying to subtly let it be known that he is not the one responsible for relaxing the laws that allow tourists to walk around without masks?

What they are failing to tell you and, perhaps Dr Darville himself may not have realized, is that most persons who are getting Covid, both here and in the United States, are people who take vaccines and booster shots AFTER they have recovered from the Omicron strain or AFTER that strain has passed over their population. Virologist in South Africa indica some time ago that Omicron treats the vaccines like another strain of the virus and ‘binds it and attempts to make it inactive.’ Omicron then establishes its own immune system in the patient. So if the patient then goes and takes a vaccine or a booster shot, omicron may come back and re-infect that individual. In fact, it may create a new and different variant and this is most likely what is happening in the United States. In China, on the other hand, they never got the Omicron. And the efforts to keep cases at zero in China are proving fruitless. Rather than lockdowns and curfews, they should follow other safety protocols and allow the virus to pass over the population. One expert believes Covid-19 will not disappear until the Omicron infects every single person on the planet. And thus far this prediction appears to be holding true.

Don’t even know how they got to discussing a ‘livable wage’ when talking about a minimum wage, They are two different kettles of fish and when Keith Bell spoke about his government’s intention of replacing the minimum wage with a livable obviously he was misinformed. Minimum wage is the pay at which a new worker enters the workforce, S livable wage is what is required to live comfortably in an economy with all the basic amenities. But there are other variables, like the number of persons living in a household, how many of them are income earners ? Is there supplemental income. Government should not seek to raise the minimum wage singularly, but to bring down the cost of living at the same time.

In other words they are yielding results with the fight against crime but armed robberies are on the increase. This has been the result for some time as several business owners have experienced home invasions or persons following them home from their place of business. In addition, police recently cracked a gang of seven that were responsible for the robberies of a number of businesses, including convenience stores, liquor store, service stations and variety stores. Maybe the gang is back in business.

“This is a high-powered rifle with two drum barrels and you could see two drum barrels and each one of the barrels could hold up to 100 rounds. So you are looking at 200 rounds. Just with this weapon. That’s over 200 lives because this is a very dangerous weapon. As we said, a high-powered rifle”.
.
.
**Strong**So two hundred rounds equals 200 lives… really? More needs to be done to bring harsher punishment to those who smuggle weapons into the country and move needs to be done to find out what is attracting young people to these types of high powered weapons. Obviously if you acquire such a weapon, you intend to use it and tge intention is that kill people. A whole lot of people. So persons found with such weapons should not only be charged with possession of illegal and dangerous weapons but also conspiracy to commit murder. Mass murder.

And that will include family issues, unemployment, housing and social problems. One may say well government doesn’t have the time or resources to address all of these. But it does. Do you know if you follow Maslow!s hierarchy of needs and start with basic necessities, the others will fall off? For example if a person s consistently hungry and without food, he will be , more often than not, angry. So if you feed him he will be less angry and less likely to become violent or crime oriented. And if you empower him to feed himself, most likely will he not only find clothing and shelter, but not n a position to help others. Too many people in this country have to swallow spit when they are hungry but can look around and see prosperity all around them.

Some may argue, and many like to , that slavery has nothing to do with it. It ended over 100 years ago and should be forgotten and time to move on. But slavery was an unforgettable experience. And to make matters worse, those who brought you here in chains don’t want you to forget. This crime, this violence and tge murders currently being experienced was imported into The Bahamas. And now it must be deported back to the people who brought it here. Compare the murder rate of any African country to that of The Bahamas or any Caribbean countries. And the victims are almost all mostly young and mostly Black. And even in Biblical times, what is the significance of young males being killed off? Nothing is new under the sun.
