This idiot and his obsession with ‘livable wage’ will def cost him his seat and the PLP the government. Wage earnings should be a product of productivity first to f all these msg. The ability of a worker to survive or not be able to live in an economy is more than his earnings. Slavery, for example, was predicated on the idea that we ‘we cannot afford to pay the workers what they need to survive in a normal economy, so we will create a controlled economy for them to live in.’ And government controls a lot of what contributes to the cost of living. In a free society, after a minimum wage, it is up to a worker to improve his skills, education or work experience in order to earn more income. They f government forces more labor on the economy than it can bear, this will lead to inflation, unemployment and businesses closing down. Idiots like Keith Bell need to study and do research before they try to deliver to the workers the impossible and cause a complete collapse of the economy veith his ignorance.
For too long Bahamians have been subsidizing the tourism industry for too long. Not only do these properties get millions in tax breaks and concessions But other exclusive privileges to operate in the country. When business is good they rake in millions. But when things break bad , they want to short change the worker and/or shut down owing the government or other agencies hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees, unpaid utilities or other obligations. Then they re-open under a new name and new management and these bills go unpaid. Vanishes into thinking air. Then again the workers must do more to protect themselves. Read the handwriting on the wall sometimes.
And whilst tourism will be one of the sectors most greatly affected by a recession, there is now such thing as essential travel where people will travel for such things as weather , health and work. And the appetite for the Bahamas remains great during economic downturns.
The forecasted recession will not be as intense as predicted or as long lasting as a usual recession lasts. Remember now, the factors that will cause this recession are not the usual ones. Firstly, the current inflation being experienced is not a shortage for f goods and services ( food and gas especially) but a fail t get these goods to market in a timely and an efficient manner. Gas supplies being interrupted by war and other goods and services being disrupted by issues stemming from the pandemic. So when consumers decide that prices have gotten too high and they will choose to how of on to their dollars, goods and services will still be in the pipeline and somewhere in the supply chain. So a reduction in price can come much sooner than usual and the economy can make necessary adjustments. Before t it reaches the production stage and mass layoffs and factories closures can be avoided. The Bahamas can starve off the effects of a recession even more by producing more food as of now and reducing its dependence on fossil fuels and non essential imports.
When will government make Driver’s Ed. a part of the high school curriculum? Every High School graduate should be required to have one semester of drivers Ed and general health and safety. Obviously there are too many drivers on the streets in whom their s is lacking. Many are offensive drivers who intrude on the safety and welfare of other road users, and by the number of traffic accidents, don’t even have control of their own safety and well-being. Drivers who overtake a vehicle in front of them, then either slow down and/or turn in front of the vehicle. Drivers who zoom outta side corners in front of other vehicles, causing those vehicles to have to stop suddenly and/or swerve to avoid an accident. Drivers who honk their horns annoyingly behind cars as soon as the traffic light changes to green. And also drivers who blow their horns ignorantly behind cars as the driver try to navigate outta a side corner onto a main road with high traffic. Drivers who turn left on a red light in front of traffic. And drivers who are now turning red or going straight across a red light (aka running the light). Fix it
Well the police killings are lagging behind the murder rate so they have some catching up to do. And the facts are, if the police dem said he had a gun and if the police dem said he fired the weapon at officers, that is the end of the story. Murder is murder. And dead men can’t talk. Sometimes you have to fear the Police in the Bahamas more than you fear the police in the United States. Police killings in the Bahamas are less investigated and police are less accountable for their actions. At least in the US the public gets to hear both sides of the story. The police and the victim’s.
Persons now working full time are finding themselves unable to make ends meet. Foods gone up gas gone up and everything else going under. Businesses are also suffering because most of the increases in the prices they sell do not stay with the businesses. So where does ‘inflation money go? The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And the homeless endemic in this country is just festering. A lot of people who got behind on rent/mortgage payments are finding out that because of inflation are finding out the get cannot keep w current bills much less catch up on the bills that are behind. And certainly the current economic situation is contributing to the increasing crime.
