It is safe d that vaccines are effective for six months. And since there is currently no eminent danger from Covid either that is life threatening or requiring hospitalization, persons currently see no need to take these ‘extremely controversial’ vaccines. And should a new strain or variant surface, what is the probability that the cuTrent vaccines will be effective?
Attention: Duane Sands is not a virologist. He is a very excellent heart surgeon/specialist but his training In virology is limited. And his constant pushing of the panic button is not unlike the boy who cried ‘wolf’ too often. The facts are , increases in Covid cases can be traced back to specific events occurring in the country and/or increased travel. And yes, China is locking entire cities down when 25 (twenty five) cases are reported. But South African virologists say ‘let the Omicron variants run their course.’ The symptoms are usually mild and the patient sometimes doesn’t even know they are infected. And they strongly recommend NOT taking any more vaccines once you recover from omicron. What does Dr Duane Sands recommend?
Simple law of Economics: keep taxes low and collect small amounts from many persons. Make taxes high and collect big amounts of taxes from less people.
WHEN a large sector of an economy is either failing to pay taxes and/or refusing to pay taxes or all of them, it is an indication that something is drastically wrong in that economy. firstly the tax system does blatantly discriminate against Bahamians, Bahamian businesses especially, in than most of the tax breaks and concessions are given to foreigners. And foreigners operate some of the most profitable and lucrative businesses in the country and if they are not able to pay taxes , imagine Bahamians. Take for example. A major resort vs a mom and pop shop. They both buy a can of soda for 75 cents. The mom and pop store sell the soda for $1.00 across the board. But the resort sells its soda in various formats ranging from $ 3.00 say on a lunch menu to $7 or $8 at a night club or for room service. .
Some businesses and persons are unable to pay all their taxes. When Vat was introduced in 2017, it was supposed to replace customs duties. But in its greediness, government chose to tax its Bahamian people both Customs duties and VAT that is also calculated inclusive of customs duties. So government is essentially collecting in excess of fifty percent taxes on most retail goods, even before they leave the port. Not only has this driven up the cost of living in The Bahamas, especially on the family islands but it has created critical challenges for retailers. firstly, through their own admission, customs barely collects 50 percent of the customs duties owing to it. This means there is widespread smuggling going on throughout the country. So the legitimate business operator, who is trying to pay his taxes, or most of it, must now compete with the smugglers, who may pay little or no taxes. So even though the legitimate business owner may be allowed to stay in business and operate, his profits or even profit potential is highly diluted. . . And another problem businesses face is because government has placed such a high leverage of taxation on imported goods, the cost of carrying inventory is so astronomical, many businesses can no longer see a profit. They have to contend with inventory shrinkage, damaged inventory and even obsolete inventory. And customs duties and vat has been paid on all these items.
One business owner was explaining his frustration. When he brings in new inventory, he cuts a check for several thousand dollars. Every 21 of the month he must remit his vat payments to go for several more thousand dollars. Then there is business licenses and national insurance aabd property taxes that all go to the government. And when the end of the year comes, the accountant says the business did not make a profit. So figure that. A business paying over $100, 000 a year in taxes but can’t realize a profit. And, according to him, some businesses have it even worse than him. Some businesses have to BORROW money to pay their vat returns. Obviously piling debt on top of debt. And for those businesses, it’s just a ma.

it is a disgrace even for the media to publish this story in its present context. Firstly, yes the ‘convict’ was approved for a work scheme and he was participating in that work program. And to the present time (now) there are no reports that he was breaking any of the rules of the program that led to his demise. And yes, unfortunately the killing took place at a business establishment that, apparently was participating in the prison work scheme. But the point everyone seem to overlook is that this man/convict had served some 17 years of his 18 year prison sentence and was scheduled to be released in less than a year. So the fact is that because he was participating in a work program is immaterial to his death. Like ke others who have been gunned down when released from prison or even on bail, this man may still have been killed when he was released next year. The sad thing is the people pointing fingers and passing the blame. They ALL hate to admit they cannot keep the public safe anymore. And anyone coming out of prison even accused of murder will face certain deaths. The horses are running fast now.!
The problem of security is an issue for many young men in this country, when it comes to employment or even seeking a job. As was demo in recent weeks, months and even years, the scope of who is getting gunned down and killed in this murder monster is broadening. Persons are being killed on their jobs, on their way to work or even after coming from work. Many young men are afraid to leave their homes to go to work. Especially if it requires taking public transportation. Usually crime decreases when employment increases, but in this instance, crime and murder in particular, may be hampering employment.and a number of these unabated shootings are not even being reported.
The facts are , things are getting worse in Haiti and the US (apparently) has job opportunities. So it is only natural that the instance of human trafficking will increase. And rather than making the penalties harsher for smuggling, why doesn’t the affected countries try help to improve the conditions and n Haiti. And, at the same time create a more accessible way for Haitians wishing to migrate to the US to do so. After all Biden did promise to allow in more migrants from Africa and the Caribbean. And thousands of war refugees are streaming in to the US from the Ukraine.. but o they are Caucasian… they told the Africans they cannot leave, but must stay and fight for a country that is not theirs.
