Yes the government must take fault for part of the crime problem. The policing system that came into effect during America’s fake war on drugs, totally discriminated against young, Black Bahamians portraying them as armed and dangerous drug addicts and many were cast out of society. Many spent years fighting charges for small amounts of marijuana and once convicted found it even more difficult to participate in society, to travel or even to find employment. The leaders of this country failed to educate themselves about the racism that is going on in America and the War on Blacks declared by Ronald Reagan. J. Edgar Hoover went even further exploring ways to destroy a population through their food and diet. The fast food eateries popped up like gremlins as as the murder rate increased, so did cancer, diabetes, hypertension and other diseases. Remember the fast food eatery that promoted their angry burgers for almost a decade? Today government must explain why so many liquor stores are popping up overnight in the inner-city. These restaurant- camouflaged liquor stores crank out liquor almost 24/7 because of the restaurant license. Is it time to bring in social scientists or behavioral experts?
A great step in the right direction. Cannot continue to allow these murders to go unabated. Too many lives are being lost and families torn apart or totally destroyed. What is the relevance of the murder increase in The Bahamas to similar increases in Jamaica, Trinidad, Chicago, Philadelphia? Do the math; If in excess of 100 murders are happening every year and only 10-12 persons charged with murder are making it before the courts and only a fraction of them are being convicted it leaves 50, 60, 70 or even more accused murderers who did not get swift Justice. So every decade the number if untried and not convicted murderers increases by the hundreds. Most of these alleged killers are eventually given bail and return to society where, they too, are gunned down, or are accused of additional murders. The current policing and Justice system is not fixing the problem but simply a growing snowball that is involving more and more killers year after year. And consuming more and more young men with murder as time goes on. For a system to be effective it must reduce the number of murders, increase the speed of the justice system so that it is swift and the penalty must be harsh. Otherwise great grandchildren will be witnessing trials of their great grandfathers (either as victims or accused) that occcured decades ago and, in some instances , occurred befor the great grand children were born.
Duane Sands is damaged goods. He destroyed his great character and credibility during the pandemic. First with breaking the rules at the country’s border and now his continued misleading information about vaccines and a fourth wave. Take a break Duane, press your refresh button and come back and try again. But give the people a break for now to settle their upset stomachs .
According to the Bible, descendants of slaves shall inherit the riches of the lands their forefathers helped enrich. But this will come at a time when the white man can not anymore come and take those riches away. Descendants of slaves are no longer African. They are Black, yes but all of their language, culture, religion and traditions have been stripped and taken away. Many will be less at home in Africa than they are in their present location. So repatriation will be a change of state and stature rather than location. Redemption it is called. Restitution and repatriation combination.
Was it fair for the Royal Bahamas Policemen to block some protesters and demand others put down their placards? These type visits expect some protests and some protesters. Sometimes that is how the royalty and other heads of state get to know the issues and concerns of the subjects.
What is the relevance of your post? The issue is not opposition to protective tariffs but if they get these benefits, should the consumer still have to pay more? In the US, for example it costs farmers more to produce some items, like milk, than it is sold for on the retail market. So rather than raise the price of milk where it is not affordable by most customers, government pays the farmers subsidies. So goods manufactured here under protective tariffs should be price compatible to imports.
Why do local manufacturers believe that government is obligated to offer them lifetime protection for goods tge manufacture locally? For example a mattress manufacturer has been in operation for over 25 years and the import duty on mattresses is 200% plus vat. By this time that local manufacturer should have established himself in the market where duty can be reduced to 100% then 50 percent. It is great to see some manufacturing of windows and doors is going on locally but the prices still exceed that of imported products even after duty and vat are paid. Something had to be wrong with that.
The way these young punks killing up people Sounds like the police force needs a new army. Need to do like they did in New York when it was overrun with gangs. Police identified the gang leaders and members and targeted them for the smallest criminal infractions. So they kept them going to court and to jail. Eventually the gang leaders got put away for a long time of left New York. And once the leaders were gone, the gangs disbanded.
