How can you deduce all that from this article? That they are serial thieves and have a long history of crime? Y’all need to stop posting foolishness just to advance your cause against Bahamians. And if they do have criminal records that will be a part of the probation report at their sentencing.
And yes, many citizens fear serving on the jury. A recent caller to a talk show said he served on the jury in a murder case. One of the accused got a 13 year sentence and another got a 19 year sentence. But he saw one of them in a public area a few months later. On making further enquiries he discovered tge men appealed their sentences and were out on bail.
Usually when a matter like this ends up before the courts, the accused would have been given several warnings. Price control inspectors visit stores regularly not only to ensure items displayed for sale ( not only breadbasket items and extended bread basket items, but all items) are priced but also have the correct price. And if Price Control gets complaints from consumers, they will visit the store more frequently.
*so what about the coroners court?’*. Which now seems to be moving along nice and smoothly. Don’t you think if one was to interfere with that now and allow police officers to choose to go before a judge rather than a jury trial , this will compromise the process if only by perception. Even if nothing is untoward. Surely witnesses will be more reluctant to go just before a judge as opposed to a jury and the public will feel a jury would be more open to the public sentiments than a judge.
***five months into the year and first fatal police shooting after a record sixteen in a single year ! *** . So what has changed? Why the drastic decline in fatal police shootings? The Coroner’s Court is functioning and justice is at work and being meted out. Police now realize they will have to account when they use their service weapons to shoot and kill someone, even in the line of duty. . And so far the coroner’s court seem to be fair in its ruling, finding those rogue police officers guilty of manslaughter and ruling as justified the killings by officers who earnestly shot and killed a suspect in the line of duty. ‘Justice must not only be done, but be seen to be done.’ And justice must be swift. ‘Justice delayed is Justice denied.’
. Imagine if the system can speed up its gears a little faster and start cranking out these murder cases a little faster. And imagine the penalty especially for cold blooded murder ( ok first degree murder) was more than just sitting in a cell at taxpayers expense, even with the probability of being released after twenty years.
mismanagement, poor management, no management, greed and corruption! And you can’t enter the first world operating the country’s power company like a bush mechanic shop. Firstly is the minister saying the Wartsilla engines purchased under the Minnis administration will also be obsolete in five years. Well everyone knows those engines were modified to run of bunker C fuel for which they were not really designed and also the cooling systems on those engines were also modified to use salt water rather than drawing water from deep water high pressure wells. Not only were the efficiency of those engines compromised but the west and tear operating them in this fashion also reduced their lifespan . . Engines are probably the most expensive outlay in capital expense BPL incurs. So let’s say BPL had six engines and the life expectancy of each engine is 20 years. BPL must then put in place a plan where all the engines do not reach the end of their lifespan all at the same time. With six engines BPL can devise a plan where two engines are replaced in five years, then another in five years then another two the following five years. Or it can make a plan of changing out three engines at a time depending on funds available. The key is not to have all the engines coming if she at the same time and not only eventually needing to be replaced at the same time but also in the high maintenance category ( oldd age) and unreliable. And there is simply, not too costly measures that can make practically every Family Island 70 to 80 percent operational without mechanical power generation
GBPA needs to make their intentions clear and stop hiding behind a white cloud of dust powder. Do they intend to be responsible, follow the rules of the country, pay their share of fees and taxes and stop milking a perceived ‘cash cow’ and move Freeport and Grand Bahama forward.
Dolphins are supposed to be one of the most intelligent sea creatures. Would be better to give them a release back into the ocean. Than to allow them to starve.
