When The Bahamas was a part of The British Empire ( before Independence) it would be expected for the host country to pay fully for a royal visit. Of course, back then, The Bahamad would be receiving monies from Britain and if the country could make a great enough impression on the Royal visitors, they may get something special like donations toward a school or hospital. That is not the case today and royal visits are very expensive with security detail and protocols. Go the rout of Jamaica and pay only part time f the cost.

And don’t forget how much waste water they dump in the ocean. The newest cruise ship can carry 7,000 guest passengers and 3.000 crew. Ten Thousand people. With one flush a day that is 10,000 flushes. People who sell drugs do so to make money and so they keep a low profile. They don’t get into gun battles. The nature of gangs is to disrupt peaceful communities and cause mayhem and commit murder. They sell drugs to support their operations. And if all the killings are about drugs, then the government should move to legalize marijuana and thus defund the gangs. Then there needs to be a publicity campaign against gangs. In the height of the pandemic the Covid-19 ads and the ‘get vaccinated ‘ ads were every three minutes in some cases. Start ad campaigns against gangs, guns and domestic violence. The common slogan is ‘if you see something, say something.’ The public does not trust the police enough to turn someone in. The murder at government house, which is supposed to be the most secure compound in the country still remains unsolved, and the midday massacre of half a dozen Bahamians. The black hawk invasions on local communities. So the assault is not just gangs. Fix the country!

If you don’t think it is not an organized turf war going on in the inner communities, can the commissioner please explain how liquor stores tripled in these areas during the pandemic. Who owns these stores? Who are granting the licenses? Why are the majority of workers in these rum shops non Bahamians? Why don’t these stores ever give receipts? Why are these liquor allowed to operate from 7:00 am in the morning until 2:00 am the following morning? Selling wholesale liquor when all other businesses are closed?
