Ash is paying dearly firstly for his ‘whistleblower’ actions and also for his ‘chickening out’ of the ‘deal.’ Obviously those on both sides of the political divide are not yet finished with him and he will feel more financial and political blows. As Hubert Ingraham said, ‘there are gangsters in the FNM and there are gangsters in the PLP. What bothers the Bahamian taxpayers is how they are now being hounded for taxes and even threatened with new taxes, only to see in broad daylight how tax dollars are being squandered or stolen under both governments and no one gets jail time and/or is required to pay monies back.

Do you know in some parts of the US, $700 a week is not a livable wage? As well as other parts of the world. But in places like Haiti, India and other parts of the world most people earn less that $50 a week and it is livable.

First thing Keith Belly must do is sit down and learn the difference between a living/livable wage and minimum wage. A living wage is the amount it a person requires to pay all his/her ordinary living expenses food, shelter clothing transportation ( could be bus fare) and communication. Minimum wage is the lowest wage allowed by law that a person may earn when they enter the workforce. This is generally for an unskilled worker with minimum education, which may not necessarily include a complete high school education or any type of specialized training. Most workers in this category are expected to be teens who still live at home. And their salaries are expected to increase as their skills and education and experience improve. Keith Bell, in his ignorance or misunderstanding of the purpose of minimum wage and definition on living wage says he will eliminate the minimum wage and replace it with a living wage. Is this man sane or insane. In other words he is saying he will pass a law where persons coming out of school and with the lowest category of skills and experience will be required by law to be paid over $300 a week! It takes an average without skills and proper education several years before they can earn a livable wage. These persons will have to work extra hours or more than one job to supplement their income until they increase their earnings potential. By virtue of the stroke of a pen, this man , through his ignorance of economics and labor, will shut down half the businesses in the country and drive up unemployment to over eighty percent. The law of labor says when you increase the earnings of persons on the lower tier an expected increase of most all the workers above those workers is automatic. And also when the minimum wage is set too high, it opens the door for illegal immigrants.

It is nice to go down Bay Street and see that it has come alive again after being desolate for nearly two years. But it is also insulting to see tge dozens and dozens of tourists walking up and down with no face masks. And it’s just like no body’s business.

The price of oil dropped to under $100 a barrel and the price of gas fell by fifty-one cents overnight. But nevertheless the major US carmakers announced even before the Russia invasion that they will increase their electric vehicle production. Ford says most of its pickups will be electric after 2025 and other auto dealers are following suit. In the main time it costs around $25,000 to change the battery in a Tesla vehicle in the US. That is $40,000 here. So that battery better last a lifetime. And that Better be a human lifetime.

This wimpy government is obviously pandering to the lucrative and demanding hotel industry. And at the risk of Bahamians getting re-infected and starting another Covid wave. China is now experiencing its outbreak of the Omicron variants and now has over 9 million people on lockdown. Only one person per household is allowed to go out every other day to get supplies for the family. China’s new cases have climbed from around 35 per day to over 1,000 new cases per day, will there be special restrictions on Chinese guests in hotels or even persons returning from China?

First off there is definitely no conditions that warrant a fear of stagnation. At lea not in The aBahamas, or the USfor that matter at this time. Both these countries had healthy and almost vibrant economies before the shutdown due in o the pandemic with the US having almost record low unemployment. And as the economy reopens there is evidence that the vibrancy is still there. There is no shortage of goods and services and goods that were trapped and delayed in the distribution channel because of hiccups are now being discounted as much as seventy percent when they hit the market. And there is no great loss of consumer confidence so there is no stagnant economy. OIL raised drastically when the war broke out and went to almost $130 a barrel, causing gas prices to also skyrocket. But as of today oil prices FELL to $99 a barrel and gas in the US is expected to fall by fifty one cents during the course of the day.

Actually you are trying to make this is to a black and white issue beginning with the disparaging remarks you made about Bahamians. The fact is more cocaine is flowing into the US per year now than whatever flowed through The Bahamad. And while authorities claim that most of the fentanyl on the streets of the US is said to be from China, most persons become addicted to opioids through prescription medicines. The question is why doesn’t the violence and mayhem follow the cocaine trade like it is allegedly plagued the marijuana market in the Bahamas? Simply it not drugs that creates the murder. It is gangs. Gangs of se drug trade to support their activities. Some states in the US claim that after the legalization of marijuana , gang activity ceased or decreased.

You would expect that some of the family islands that are sparsely populated and have few outsiders would be the first to see relaxed masks laws. But hotels where the population make up changes virtually every day? And casinos now have more freedoms that the church? Davis yinna wrong, wrong wrong!
