Why you Tal Russell, continue to write in Greek, when you and others claim the average Bahamian is an’D’ average escapes me. Unless maybe all your posts are directed to those who understand Greek. Other than that your posts must serve to annoy and attempt to confuse the ordinary person. Even a D average writings Nate more comprehensible than what to write and to continue to post in this fashion is silly ignorance. And to still be referring to The independent Bahamas as a colony with a premier surely indicates your intentions are not good and neither is your respect for The Bahamian People.

Do you know why the statue of liberty have broken chains at her feet? ‘ When Bartholdi created the first models, the statue's hands were holding broken chains to signify the end of slavery. ... Bartholdi, however, left broken chains at the feet of Lady Liberty to remind us of the freedom from oppression and servitude.14 Mar 2017’. In essence, America would not accept the original design that represented the end of slavery and the ‘freedom’ of Black people in America so the design had to be modified and the concept of its design made more subtle.

So this account is saying that it was the money of Black, Bahamian slaves that bought and paid for the statue of Chris. So then it gives Bahamians more right to decide what to do with it. Destroying it may not be the best option but first to confirm this account of the circumstances surrounding the creating of the statue and the placement of it on Peaks Slope. Then a plaque at least six feet tall and three feet wide bearing this account should be erected next to the statue. The fact that Black Bahamians were duped into paying for the statue of someone they did not admire is history invaluable.

‘the history behind columbus statue being where it is: by alexis clarke:

i myself have never heard or read this account until today. If it is TRUE, I say let CHRIS remain where he is and let the story be told in a plak visible for all to see.

Many Bahamians question why the Christopher Columbus statue exists and what is the importance behind it being at Government house, and rightly so considering Columbus didn’t discover The Bahamas and also made no positive contribution to what this country is today.

The history of the statue is tied with Sir James Carmichael Smyth, slaves in The Bahamas and another statue the Queen Victoria in parliament square.

Sir James Carmichael Smyth was appointed Governor of The Bahamas in 1829. Smyth was a known sympathizer with the cause of slaves and a keen abolitionist, because of this he found himself to be the enemy of many influential whites.

Smyth also worked to abolish corporal punishment for female slaves, Smyth tried without success to persuade the House of the Assembly to legislate against it.

in 1830 Smyth became aware of cruelty towards female slaves among a group of 77 runaways from the Lord Rolle estate in Exuma. The slaves, who had stolen a boat and fled to Nassau, were seized in Nassau Harbour and tried as runaways. ‬

‪The magistrates who signed the warrant for the punishment of the female slaves were suspended by Smyth. Smyth's actions caused an uproar

Smyth was described as a pre emancipation hero for attacking the atrocities of slavery and providing leniency for runaway slaves. He also dismissed the police magistrate and severalmunicipal judges for defiance of these orders.

Carmichael Smyth frequently worshipped with the black congregation on Sundays, the ruins of this church are located at the junction of Carmichael and Gladstone road and are incorporated into the structure of St. Ambrose Anglican Church.

To show gratitude the black people collected a great amount of funds which they gave to Carmichael Smyth to have a monument made. It is my assumption that the black Bahamians assumed that he would have a monument sculpted of himself but instead he had a statue of Christopher Columbus sculpted.

The statue was originally meant to be in parliament square but the rich whites were disgusted with the thought of a statue paid for by black people would be at the House of Parliament entrance. So instead the wealthy whites erected a statue of Queen Victoria where it still remains.

As a result Sir James Carmichael Smyth moved his gift to pecks slope near Government house

Information retrieved from “The African diaspora of The Bahamas” by Keith L. Tinker’. There is a similar story about the Statue of Liberty being given as a gift to America by France in commemoration of the abolishment of slavery.

And what’s going on down in Inagua? Additional cases and additional hospitalizations and deaths. Has the source of infection been identified yet. Authorities already say it was not the hundreds of illegal Haitians.

So what did America do with the statues of so called heroes it was forced to take down? Hey if his hand band leg offended thee, then break them off. And look at the Caucasian idiots here who don’t know their own history or even their origins, but trying to fend for Colombus.

John says...

Obviously you speak for yourself as tho is laughing at you or who really needs to feel sorry for you. Obviously when you can’t keep up with the discussion and/or know the truth you try change the narrative. And that is your history. If Minnis or anyone else chooses to erect statues to the annoyance or offense of the people, then the outcome has been clearly demonstrated. For you to even suggest this was Minnis intention put you in an even more sorry state than you were given credit for. How Minnis became the topic of your posts clearly confirms you are confused and, yes, delusional. Where did the name Caucasian originate?

John says...

NOT! Read messenger’s post, then read mines. If you want to make sense of anything then you have to go far back enough to make sense of the origins. So when messenger tried to refer to Africa as one mass historically or culturally or even nationally then that is very misleading, intentionally or otherwise. And here’s another question for you and messenger: Why are white peoples called Caucasians? PS. If you know that or get to learn that, then you would get to understand why there are so many attacks and assaults on certain African peoples and their descendants. Including the AIDS pandemic and the current Covid-19 pandemic

Why are so many people dying in PMH from Covid-29 after being admitted for non Covid related illnesses? The hospital is contaminated and definitely a breeding ground for the virus. As the numbers of new cases decline, governments first priority should be to get Covid patients out of PMH and into a separate facility. Sad the number of people that went there suffering from recoverable illnesses, but died from Covid. Expecting mothers even, who only went to the hospital to give birth but ended up contracting the virus and dying from it in the matter of hours.

Sands and Minnis may be compromised to the vaccine manufacturers. Just like the government of Australia. Follow their narrative since the vaccines came out and especially Dr Duane Sands even after elections especially where he’s hinting at more curfews and possible lockdowns. Even some representatives of some vaccines manufacturers say the distribution of vaccines are being mishandled. Firstly there should not have been an attempt to vaccinate everyone and secondly, people who have recovered from the virus should not be vaccinated. But they are, in fact being forced ( ok coerced) to get vaccinated as soon as they recover.
