Don’t fall in love with your masks. The wearing of disposable masks should be encouraged for all front line workers, including retail stores and bank tellers. These masks should be removed and disposed of before leaving place of employment and can be replaced with a cloth mask until the next work day. You don’t see doctors and nurses leaving the hospital in masks they been seeing sick people in all day and take them home and throw them on the dining table.
Reduced cases over a four day period is a good sign. The Hranf Bahama cases having to receive intensive care is not a good sign. Has a new strain of the virus entered Grand Bahama?
The government is acting in Tourism like they were acting in Freeport , Grand Bahama. Rather than holding the Ports feet to the fire and making them carry out their duties and responsibilities, for which they are collecting hefty taxes, government stepped in and performed those duties at additional expense to the Bahamian people. In the case of tourism, it is stakeholders other than the government that will determine when that sector gets up an running. And whilst the government should prepare and stand ready for such eventuality, any premature moves will result in additional expenses and possibly social and damage to the health of the Bahamian people. Despite the numbers of persons contracting Corona, becoming ill, and the unfortunate number of deaths, the economic fallout form the Covid-29 pandemic will be more devastating and the effects more longer lasting. As the US moved into its winter season, more businesses , like restaurants and bars and retailers will not be able to operate within the safety guidelines set out by the emergency orders. Some will have to close, and unfortunately for many, that closure will be permanent. And as the unemployment numbers climb, the recovery efforts will become less effective and more difficult. And the outcome of the US Presidential Elections will also have a great impact on the recovery of the US economy. Or it’s destruction. Some predict the cruise industry will not gain steam until late 2021, and yes a safe and disease free vacation will be a major draw for those venturing to travel soon. And so the ability for The Bahamas to keep its guests safe and corona free, will be the major selling point, to get the tourists to come and to give other players the confidence to reopen. And even then it will not business as usual. At least for some time.
And your post is baseless! If the number of tests over a period of time remains constant but the number of persons testing positive declines, what does that indicate, at least among the persons being tested? Everyone is hollering ‘test, test, test!’ But a negative test is only active up to the time the test is made. The person can become infected immediately after the test is taken. The more common sense thing was for industrial countries to put more effort into finding an effective and affordable treatment, rather than finding an effective vaccine. The virus mutates rapidly and by the time it’s developed and goes through all the trial phases and safety measures, it will be obsolete. And most of the vaccines being tested has an efficacy rate of less than 60 percent. Meaning at least four of every ten persons that take the vaccine will not be protected. And experts suggest that close to1/3 of the world’s population has been infected with Covid-29z. And as long as reinfections remain low, they expect herd immunity to kick in and the possibility of the virus disappearing. Numbers may start falling as early as December and many countries being corona free by March 2021.
Four days with a go 50 plus percent decline in numbers, there is light at the end of the tunnel. But will the government repeat the same mistake and going open the borders? Not only for tourists coming in, but for Bahamians and residents going out and coming back in. Can proper measures and controls be put in place to prevent a new strain of Covid-29 coming in or should this event be suspended to December? America continues to see record cases and more deaths and more persons requiring hospitalizations
Is there anything going on with the lockdowns and long lines and curfews going on in The Bahamas that is not happening worldwide? Wasn’t it this same, good bishop who told his congregation, just prior to a previous general election, ‘If you don’t plan to vote PLP, get your hip outta my church!’ Let the church say Amen.
And experts are warning America to prepare for dark days and weeks ahead as the weather gets colder , people begin to spend more time indoors and the cold and flu season begins. They expect surging cases and deaths to be intermingled with flu cases and deaths. What if they are wrong and the US numbers start to fall off too?
Has this country reached the peak of its third wave of Corona and will the cases continue to decline? Or was the three day near 50 %. decline in cases just a lull and will they go back up? Another few days will give answers. And strangely, while the Bahamas saw a three day period with the lowest number of nee cases since June, America recorded its highest number of cases over that same period.
The Who said lockdowns should not be used as the major mechanism to fight corona N.O.T because they do not work, B U T because of the negative and possibly devastating effect they can have on the economy. AND if contact tracing and additional testing were more effective, then why are so many government officials and government buildings being infected? Do you know Haiti flattened their curve and their numbers are on the decline? So are the Dominican Republic's numbers on a sharp decline. And Florida, until a few days ago and after seeing their numbers skyrocket started to see sharp declines. And who is to say a 50% decline in the numbers for three consecutive days is not to be celebrated? And should Grand Bahama and Eleuthera continue to allow their numbers to escalate and no action is taken? If people cannot control themselves, then some restrictions have to be put in place. If you are saying a 50% or better decline in the cases should not be touted as a success, then you are very unreasonable. And what do you suggest is the reason for Eleuthera and now Grand Bahama swing their cases going back up after all if their restrictions were lifted and freedoms restored. Should they just be left and allow the numbers to continue to climb Willy Nilly?
We criticize and despise the curfews and weekend lockdowns, but why is no one reporting that Covid-19 cases in The Bahamas has been DOWN by more than 50 percent for basically THREE consecutive days? Eighty four cases on Friday, 58 cases on Saturday and 56 cases on Sunday. New Providence figures have come down from triple figures to double digits and whilst Eleuthera and Abaco numbers seem to be tapering off, Grand Bahama has seen a steady surge in new cases. So assuming this trend continues throughout the week and so what will happen when Tourism reopens on November 1?
