Apparently this man’s insight is selfish and self serving. It doesn’t take into account the need to harness the inflow or influx of foreigners in order to preserve and to protect the indigenous Bahamian. It is reckless and dangerous to say, ‘open the gates and let them in if only because we have much land and can benefit from a population increase. Let the increase be in proportion to natural born Bahamians! Even ancient cities had immigration policies and population controls. And many cities had laws that jailed or even executed unwanted or unauthorized migrants. It is not that the country’s system of arrest, detention and deportation is failing, it is that many are more determined to come here and remain here so they are more willing to challenge the system and the laws. And this doesn’t mean The Bahamas must break down its gates and let More people in, it means The Bahamas must build stronger gates and keep more persons out!
Local consumers can get on board with reusable straw baskets for shopping. Paper straws will definitely bee too expensive and will not work well for alcoholic drinks. And goods coming from Amazon can have up three separate plastic packages. So not only should single use be banned but that does enter the country needs to be recycled.
remember when they tried to put pay toilets in Airports, Gas stations, Train and bus stations? And the end result was other passengers would walk to the public areas of these facilities and end up walking in a pile of poop or finding the areas so dirty and nasty they refuse to use the facilities. Persons were urinating in dark and empty corners. And it was not only because travellers did not want to pay or could not afford to pay to use the toilet, but many didn't like that fact that they were being caught with their pants down. And so it is with the public hospital. No one planned on getting sick or going to the emergency room and here they are, bleeding from the neck or chest and you trying to tax them. So with the airports and bus stations and etc, they introduced a user fee so rather than charge you when you needed to "GO" they charged you before you "CAME". The fees were added on to the cost of your ticket and in a sufficient way that the airports didn't have to sit and have you show your ticket to use the toilets or to sit and watch television. And so it may have to be with the hospital. The $300 plus million given to the Health Ministry is already taxpayers money. So plan accordingly that when persons use the health care facilities, only minimum fees will be collected. Dammit, its time Bahamians feel that they are entitled and are getting something free in this country..after tax after tax after tax! So plan a budget that will recognise that Bahamians don't want to pay when they are sick or injured or dying and need to use the public hospital.

One of the saddest things is to ride through Potters Cay and see what is happening to the vendors out there. This only recently booming, all Bahamian popular food and drink spot has been turned into a ghost town over night. And it was an effort launched years ago to close this spot down. So now when the tourist comes over the bridge, rather than seeing a place bustling with activity they see an area cordoned off with dozens of armed police. In fact more police are stationed at Potters Cay than probably and other single area in The Bahamas, including Government House where there was also a murder recently. Rather than blocking parking completely, they could have reconfigured where persons could park in the lanes under the bridge and away from the stalls. A taxi, for example could have parked and waited while their guests went and had a few drinks or conch salad. Now they must drop them off, exit the area to find parking, then go get their cab and return to pick up their passengers when they are ready to leave. Our people perish for the lack of common sense.
Anyone who doesn’t think this power fiasco is intentional and purpose driven needs their head checked. Start building your solar grid to run essentials in your home. Lights and fridge. And after a year or two you may have enough panels to run your Ac as well.. or some good batteries to run it at night. Then give BPL da finger rather than your checkbook every month.

On INSIGHT – Arrest, detention and deportation has not worked for 70 years. It’s time to stop the insanity and try something else
