#“Justice Forbes,” he said, “has been acting for almost two years. Why not confirm his appointment? If you don’t confirm him, he reverts to his substantive post as deputy chief magistrate. We should get some explanation as to why they feel it’s necessary to confirm an outside 64-year-old on the eve of her 65th birthday when you have an able-bodied person in the position acting. Are the people on the commission really attending to their responsibilities? This really calls into question the independence of the JLSC.”

Police, Defence Force and Prison Officers sent into retirement, some not yet 60. Judge gets sworn in at the age of 64years, 361 days old Maybe she deserves the post if only to get a decent pension. But did the policemen dem deserved to get kicked inside their boots the way they were? After serving this country for so long? Are you serious?

Perfect special interest pandering and poor man discrimination.

So how comes KP Turnquest and H A Minnis did not give Marvin Dames and Anthony Ferguson more money to kill more Bahamians and wreck more cars..

#Auto Industry getting THREE (ok FIVE) jump starts in two year and watch they will still be complaining by September. TWO customs duties reductions that specifically does not include Japanese cars. Got road traffic to put ‘no parking zones’ along major streets to prevent locals from private sales of vehicles. Got government to pass laws banning persons from importing more than two vehicles a year unless they have a motor dealers license. They also requested and got government to agree with hat all vehicles coming from Japan must be inspected at an additional cost to the consumers of $150.00 even this service was already included with most Japanese car dealers. And the smaller, long suffering clothing and shoes vendors only got conditional exemption on clothing and shoes and even so must show that they are reducing the cost of their products to the customers. But s car dealer can do as he pleases with the reduction in duty .

#The Era Of Political Favours Is Now Finished...Really?
Car dealers got two tax reductions in two consecutive budgets on cars local Bahamians still cannot buy.

John says...

Well, what you mean is 'ordinary Bahamians will not be buying new cars'. The banks will not qualify them and those who do qualify do not want the hassle of loan payments when they can purchase a Japanese vehicle in fairly good condition 'for cash', and can get good and reliable use out of it for a few years until they can afford to purchase another one. But there are some who can afford to buy new vehicles for cash.

John says...

This budget does have a little heart in it and some conscience with relief for Bahamians. let's see if they put the furniture stores and car dealers through the same rigmarole that they put the clothing and shoe stores through, where they must be tax compliant, including taxes for every property they own and that they must apply for the tax exemption every time goods are imported into the Bahamas. Or will they remove the duties from these goods carte blanche? And speaking of car dealers they most have found very special favour with the Minnis government as this is the second consecutive budget that they are seeing custom duty reductions on vehicles.

It is not a usual thing for power generators to catch afire and certainly not at the rate that has been happening in this country recently. Even when the unions were at odds with the government, the power generators or plants never suffered this type of damage.

So what else was in the budget, because this was obviously the most exciting thing that happened in the house today, (and yesterday).
