Why such a small window considering how slow the process moves for getting these things done. Two things government should consider. Make Drivers Education a part of the 12 grade curriculum in all government schools. Start a program in the schools where all students can do all the necessary paperwork and apply for status while still in school. A mobile service that can go from school to school and even those on the family islands. Make the process more seamless and less faustrating rather than one that seeks to criminalize jail and depot potential citizens. Of course this is only kicking the ball further down the street because you are not only giving persons who may be victims of circumstance and who may otherwise be upstanding citizens with good potential, a criminal record, but you are attempting to deport them from the only country they know. What do you think will be their first goal when they arrive in Haiti, a strange and impoverished land with no family or friends?
There was a similar situation developing in Miami where parents dropped a 4 y/o off to an art gallery to meet with the owner with the understanding that they would pick him up when the meeting was done. However, him back to his parents a female in the gallery told the owner that she knew the boy and would take back to his parents. But as she was leaving the gallery the owner followed her and asked the child if he knew the women to which he replied 'no'. He rescued the young boy and detained the female until the police arrived. She is now serving time in jail for abduction. So maybe the public also needs to take a little more interest in this matter.
Dumb comment. Abduction means you take someone without their permission or the permission of a person who can give consent. In the case of children they are being taken without parents knowledge or consent. Kidnapping is holding the person against their will. Child abandonment is that you taking a child from a familiar place and leaving him in a strange area. And edangering a child by leaving him in a strange and isolated area.
A few years ago I posted about predator drugs that were so powerful they can change a person’s DNA. They become killers and once someone is identified as the enemy (prey) the predators will not rest until they attack and kill them. In London the incidents of teens (of rival) gangs stabbing each other fatally continues and have gotten to the point where schools are now teaching students how to treat stab wounds. In Chicago and a few other major cities the gunfire is like a war zone and so are the dead bodies. And so is the violence in Jamaica, Trinidad. And what do all these areas , including London, have in common with The Bahamas? In all cases both the major victims and pepatrators of the crimes are black.
The docks don’t usually hold all the weight of the ships. The hull is usually resting on solid ground and the cranes used to prop the ship and keep it from tilting. So maybe this was human error and the weight of the hull was not fully released off the cranes and dock
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Unless God intervenes no flesh will be left alive. Dr Allen is on point about the gangs , but he must also acknowledge that this is spiritual warfare. What a welcome to Grand Bahama for Royal Caribbean, owner of the ship and now intended purchaser of the Lucayan Hotel. Did they also negotiate with Hutcherson Wampoa before the government got involved in the sale? You know conspiracy has to have a theory.
The hypocrisy of it all is Hubert Minnis is 64 years old and plans to run in Elections 2022. Commissioner Anthony Ferguson is as old or has put in as many years on the force as some of the officers he has sent home. And everyone that holds a job will have to face the day he has to retire unless he meets his demise while still employed. And, yes, retirement should be more than a 'here take your vacation and don't bother to come back when your done" Retirement is not an easy pill to swallow and many companies spend mega bucks and company time preparing employees for it. Not only do you not have a job anymore, but income is reduced and spare time is in abundance. And yes some do transition easily by putting more time into the church, family or other activities. But some continue to taste the bitterness of the retirement pill. They too may become bitter, with feelings of resentment and rejection. Some may turn to alcohol and other activities they shunned all of their lives. And of course, there are those who will still feel they are/were indispensable. They may live with the hope and dream that they will be called back to work and will keep their uniforms and gear ready to go. ANd it is not unusual if some do show up for work and have to be (gently) reminded that they are retired and should go back home. Once a man and for the second time, a child.
Would a male teacher handled it differently? if he had caught girls in the guys' room? Made them to run laps maybe or submitted to extra practice sessions? Because he understands the nature of young men. The key is to ensure they understand they were not being punished for attracting girls, but for violating school policy and taking them to their rooms after hours. This teacher, while her intention is good, tried to make publicity of the matter. To shame or embarrass the guys. So at the end of the day one may ask "what type of teacher beats guys for having girls in their rooms?' You discipline them, yes and lecture them of the possible consequences (pregnancy, stds, expulsion from school), yes but corporal punishing them? And in front of an audience.
