The age old question is who is smuggling guns into this country and selling them to criminals? The question is why isn’t more being done to intercept these weapons before they hit the streets are are used in the commission of a crime? There are hundreds of licensed firearms in this country and barely a one is used for criminal activity. Yet persons can produce high powered weapons to commit murder any hour of the day or night. So maybe it’s time to identify, reveal and prosecute gun traffickers.

Once the country joins the WTO and becomes compliant with Standard and Poors, there will be no more power outages. Ask KP and Laing.

Major economists think the world economy is slipping into a recession and the erratic and unpredictable behavior of US President, Donald Trump is not helping. Defense Secretary, James Mattie, has resigned over Trump’s decision to pull troops out of the Middle East.

Well maybe the Bahamas needs to hurry up and join the WTO. Because once they are a member, there will be no such thing as ‘poaching Dominican fishermen. As a member nation the Bahamas will be required to share any commodity it has in excess with other membership nations. And since the world believes that the Bahamas has an abundance of seafood, the Dominicans must be welcomed to take their fair share. The same will apply to aragonite, sand and even jobs, as a matter of speaking.

Eleven fatal shootings this year and eighteen last year and close to fifty police involved shootings in two years. Is this an indication that (criminal) offenders are more bold and more willing to resist the police, such that they end up getting shot, even dead, or it it that the police are prepared to act more swiftly, even when it comes to the use of deadly force? In any event, when the amount of murders are added to the amount of unclassified deaths and added the the number of police involved killings, there may be no decrease in the yearly loss of life, but an actual increase. So is the country experiencing a wave of violent crime or a surge or breed of violent criminals such that the police must now respond with more brutal force? Or is this a revival of an old policing strategy that involves ‘the bus{es) of pain and ‘the death squad’. Where once it’s done, it’s done and the police no longer have to be accountable for their deadly actions?

If we are to buy the COP’s argument that it is a small group of individuals wreaking havoc on the rest of society then why is the age group of both the persons getting murdered and also those doing the killings, especially be increasing? But they remain constant between 18 and 25. And if the persons carrying out criminal activity is just a small group, then where does the 1,000 plus persons who were murdered over the decade fit in. According to the police many of these persons, who were killed, were prolific offenders or, at least, known to the police. Now they are being killed because of the company they keep.

John says...

Does this man drink flit before he makes a public statement? Yes it is good advice for everyone to be aware of the company they keep but is the converse of that also true? If a so called ‘ bad boy’ or former offender cleaning up his life and trying to go straight, shouldn’t he also mind the company he keeps? Would it make the crime any less serious if these young men are shot down and killed with a group of thugs or active gang bangers rather than a spouse, a friend or a family member? Based on the commissioner’s repeated idiotic statements, the Department of Corrections should be changed back to Fox Hill Prison because the commissioner does not believe in reform.

The fact is Bay Street will never be successful as it was in the past and definitely not by being highly dependent on cruise ship passengers. What many fail to admit was that even when the Downtown area was at its peak of success as a shopping Mecca, it was local Bahamians along with cruise ship passengers plus high end tourists from Paradise Island and Cable Beach that contributed to that success. Today Bahamians only go downtown on a ‘need to go basis’, and both Cable Beach And Paradise Island have high end shops of their own. So the successful revitalization of Bay Street will require a remix that has its own share of residents which can include high end housing for local Bahamians, time share apartments and condominiums as well as hotel rooms. Enough people in the area to keep activity ongoing.

John says...

Word is circulating on the streets and social that there the plan is to carry out at least 10 double murders before the end of 2018. The intention is not only to push the murder count above 100, but to also demonstrate that crime is not under control and Bahamians have a lot to fear. The police must now work to gain the public support and stand united against crime and criminals. As things are at present it is the people vs the police vs the criminals. A three way fight. Shall you take a guess at who is winning?

The UK has its own troubles to worry about. And will the European Union turn Britain into an economic Haiti once Britain exits the EU? This is something the world will be watching. That’s is Britain is even allow to leave the EU in the next 100 days. And this is something The Bahamas most also watch as it is or seeks to join world organizations. And Britain appears to be going through a severe case of self implosion as a great deal of fear mongering accompanies it’s efforts to exit the union. So much so that a lot of Britain’s lawmakers and citizens are Britxhausted!
