Despite how much long suffering shareholders would love dividends, BoB has to recover some more and become more healthy financially before resuming dividends. Have to get market share and consumer confidence back.
He did say the husband came into the bedroom area from the bathroom area and gave him his breakfast order after he finished hugging the wife, who also gave her breakfast order.
An innocent young man was shot 18 times by a police officer with most of the bullets being in the victim’s back. And nothing has come out of that matter, apparently not on even a proper apology to the family or the police agreeing to launch a special investigation into the matter. So what do you think will come of this matter, or the matter last week where a young man claimed he was beaten by police with a cutlass until his buttocks bled and he couldn’t even sit down. And what about the other young man who claimed the police knocked his tooth. And there is the female protester who also claims police beat her and a video of the incident was posted. So have women now also become prey to police brutality? Are beatings and physical abuse a part of the police culture in this country, so much so that it is tolerated and condoned all the way to the top? With the exception of the few months training they get at the police college, more than ninety percent percent of police officers don’t not have education beyond high school. And for whatever reason they have the need to beat and abuse members of the public, whom they are also sworn to protect and serve, they must have enough common sense to realize if they have to injure, physically or mentally, three or four innocent persons to find one guilty one, then their actions are counterproductive. Those beating and even alleged torture are not easily forgotten and these innocent persons have to return to society when they have been broken and had their rights violated by officers who have sworn to protect. And the senior officers who encourage this behavior or even allow it to happen are most pathetic. It is testament that you are incompetent and incapable of doing your job properly or willing to take advantage of helpless John Q Public. So after they finish the beating one officer ask the next one ‘you hear how da one holler ‘. But it was the Bahamas crying out for justice.
In a way Sandals have to take the blame because they took the guests side without even hearing the butler’s side. Then firing him and having him arrested. And there’s such a variance between what the couple is charging and the butlers version of what took place. Both parties agree that breakfast orders were taken for both husband and wife so did she give her order before or after she was assaulted? And the reason they are asking for so much, the think they have an open and shut case because the butler pled guilty. Apparently their expectation is that Sandals will settle for some lesser amount, rather than going to trial. And, of course, if Sandals does opt to go the court, they will need the butler to testify since, according to him, even the police did not get a statement on record from him. In matters like this but your bottom dollar that neither the husband or wife will willingly take the stand if the matter goes to trial.
In the next few years, as more and more cruise ships are built and come on stream, islands of the Caribbean, The Bahamas and other cruise ports will have to find ways to garnish more funds from cruse ship passengers when they visit. These cruise ships are getting bigger and bigger and are virtual floating cities. But they are useless and unattractive if they have no ports to visit. And the days of paying cruise ships to visit are gone forever. And so The Bahamas and other countries must benefit from the use of their beach, the ships plying the waters and the waste and refuse they dump when they visit..and yes some are still dumping sewerage in the ocean.
The concept is a good one. The necessity is a great one. But if there is too much bureaucracy and too much red tape that leads to frustration and disappointment, then it will turn into disaster instead of relief. Bahamians do not like government prying too much into their lives and once government makes a determination that a person/family/business is in distress help should be rendered without the requirements for it becoming oo burdensome. Just the idea of pumping new money into the areas and putting people to work will jumpstart some economic activity. Have government thought of partnering with the big businesses in the area to sponsor items like garbage bins, paint or other items? Or are they still battling with the web shops? The houses in Bain and Grants Town may be small and dainty but when the prime minister grew up there and Christmas was coming, everyone found one $20.00 to buy a gallon of paint, one palm tree leaf to sweep u their yard and one pine tree to decorate to feel the spirit. And one yard or two of linoleum to make the inside of the house smell new.
A crucial window of opportunity was missed when the volunteer divers went out in search of the missing craft and pilot and rather than embrace their efforts, officials seem to take offense to the fact that this volunteer team was able to recover substantial debris that was from the downed plane, while the Defense Force efforts did not come up with anything of substance. Even if officials needed to make the crash area a controlled zone, they should have embraced the opportunity to partner with the volunteer divers and do another dive/search as soon as possible, tides and currents change and there are also undercurrents. so the crashed plane may not be today where it was when the divers last discovered anything.
@Why do birds fly South for winter? Not everyone knows. In fact, not everyone knows birds do fly South from winter. And what about the birds that are already South? do they fly North for summer? The point is in the process of negotiating, it is not unusual for the top official to call up those in discontent, or even reach out to both sides of the dispute in hopes of reaching a settlement. When Trump went to North Korea to meet with "Little Rocket Man", they both already knew what the contention was. And Trump was told, " if you call me Little Rocket Man", one more time there will be problems. The point is, a settlement in this dispute is not unreachable. But it can only be achieved by parties, including the PM, reaching out to each other. A famous quote: "you don't get what you deserve; you get what you negotiate."
