You better believe these demands and requirements are coming from over the head of this Bahamian government. They have sufficient data coming in from customs department, and VAT and with other cross-referencing can determine what they need to know. Why do they want access to your bank accounts when banks give businesses all the trouble in the world to accept deposits over $10,000 in any instance. Someone wants to know the value of every business operating in this country and the net worth of every individual. This economy will dry up like a newspaper in a fire if this government doesn't come to its senses immediately. Businesses and business people do not need any more invasion into their operations, financial burden associated with these demands or the stress to deal with it. Some will close simply because of it. The headache of doing business in The Bahamas Reality is the profits of most Bahamian businesses have been frittered away by taxes and increases in the cost of doing business, among other things.
A repeat of the Andros crash where the pilot was refused permission to land, sent back through a heavy rain and thunderstorm, the plane crashed and was not recovered until it was located by local fishermen? Six people lost their lives in that ill-fated flight. Now this right off the shores off the New Providence.
I dare anyone to put a set of financials in front of Marlon Johnson and have them analyze them. Give him a bank statement and have him reconcile it. Clearly a political lackey who doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. Except trying to invade the privacy of Bahamians and businesses for information he himself cannot interpret or has no use for. Will he skip town after next election and go back to St Kitts or is he no longer welcome there?
Darron Cash is not a good spokesperson for BoB. In fact he was one who tried to take the hatch to BoB many times along with a pick axe to dig a hole and bury it. And least we forget, BoB’s problems were a result of political interference, cronyism and not the normal operation of the bankor its ability to turn healthy profits over a period of time. And, yes its loan portfolio may not be in the best of health, but how does it stand up to other banks? A 199% increase is incredible considering the harsh economy and another year of similar performance should put BoB in good standing.
One part of the increase may be due to cruise ship workers, telling passengers where to shop and where not to shop. they would direct passengers to certain stores with hopes of getting commissions on sales or get paid up front to broadcast certain stores on the ship. And some of the cruise ships were telling passenger they were not allowed to bring straw work/products on the ship. So now many of the stores that were on 'the cruise ship program" found it too expensive to maintain, or the stores, themselves are no longer in business. So now you see tourists wandering freely along Bay street and to the beach and renting bikes, rather than all piling up in a few stores. Some cruise directors even told passengers not to take cash or credit cards off the ship when in ports like Nassau. The money is being shared around.
Another shot this morning on his way to work. Being driven by his father. Government can not use the defense that young people being killed is, "one gang of prolific offenders killing up another set." Despite the decline in murders, jail is not serving as a deterrent for killing, especially while killers now lie and wait for victims and are now even shooting female shoppers while they are leaving the store with their groceries. Jail is a criminal college where young, offenders who commit minor crimes go to get trained and hardened, If capital punishment cannot be re-instituted then something has to go along with prison sentences to make it more unbearable and punishing.
