You are wrong about the sewerage plant. While it was closed for local (Nassau) it still served parts of Paradise Island. And like you, many did not make the connection where raw sewage from Paradise Island hotels were treated then pumped into the ocean. Hence the continued smell of a raw sewer.
1. they are rebuilding the sewerage plant just hundreds of feet from Potters Cay. 2. They unusually warm temperature of the water causes bacteria to grow rapidly. 3. Many persons living on boats docked at Potters cay dump raw sewerage into the water. 4. Sewerage from nearby marinas also make its way to Potters Cay. 5. Patrons on Potters cay use the sea (water) for toilets. 7 Are the public toilets on Potters Cay operational and even slightly maintained? 6. Some of the stalls don't have proper toilet facilities or are not in close proximity to any. 8. Boats in and out of the harbor also also "wake u" and distribute bacteria. 9.Potters Cay is just too active to keep fresh seafood in the surrounding waters and eventually this practice will have to be discontinued. 10 And then there is the run off. 11. Not to mention the rodents.
The biggest problem is those 'little gremlin' vehicles they sell over the internet for a few hundred dollars. Even the freight and customs duty is more than the vehicle. Then when the car arrives the owners drive it for a few months until it needs a part replaced and they learn that no parts are available. So they order another one, and then yet another. So money has to be spent disposing of these vehicles and they contribute to the import bill. But it appears that persons are realizing this 'ripoff' and are now purchasing more midsize vehicles from which they can get more utility, based on our road conditions. About the nuclear contamination..is there grounds for concern, then it should be investigated.
All of Tribune bloggers must be on vacation. To allow the Commissioner of Police to get away with such a "news-less" and "claims unsubstantiated" press conference. Yes murders are down by some 25% but hasn't this downward trend started under the previous commissioner? What substantially is this new (police) administration doing that has contributed to this decrease? And has there been any corresponding increases in detection and conviction for murderers? It appears the decrease is more associated with attrition more than anything else because apparently when someone wants to go out and kill someone, they still do so without fear of the consequences.
as for the traffic fatalities: When was the last time you saw police operating a speed trap to catch speeding motorists? Many people are not only breaking the speed limit but many are not even aware of it. But there is several factors contributing to the large number of traffic accidents and the high traffic fatalities, besides speed. There are a large number of these small Japanese vehicles on the streets. While they are very fast but they lose control easy and go airborne. Drivers and passengers have very little protection after that and many are thrown from these vehicles, sustaining serious and even fatal injuries. There are also a lot of young and inexperienced drivers on the road, because vehicles have become more affordable and this contributes to accidents. Then there are shifts in driving culture, like rather than drivers waiting for the road to clear, they will just shoot out of a corner and expect the other driver to slow down or stop. The same thing happens when changing lanes, they just shoot into the land in front of another vehicle without giving any form of warning or signal. Then the other driver must then take evasive action. Then there is the ever increasing incidence of road rage, that sometimes escalate into drivers becoming physically confrontational, while still driving their vehicles. And with cars travelling at higher rates of speed padestrians have become more easy victims of traffic accidents. Some cannot judge the speed a vehicle is travelling or sometimes they get caught with vehicles travelling at high rates of speed and get hit by more than one vehicle. A road safety and user campaign is necessary.

One MP claims they want to make the "Over The Hill" area look like Hollywood, Florida. And government must be careful not to get their lines crossed or their priorities mixed up. Ban and Grants Town, like other parts of the inner city are low income, but striving areas. These areas are stepping stones for persons who want to climb the economic ladder or who have fell on hard times. What they DON"T need is government coming in and attempting to raise the standard of living to such a level that average persons living there now can no longer afford to live in Bain and Grants Town and will now become home;less since shanty towns are being dismantled. So you want to bring the areas up to standards on a low income area, not a Hollywood, Florida.
It is ok to spend money to train people to become employable. But you must also ensure jobs exist else the exercise will be a useless waste of time and scares funds. And with the high incidence of unemployment among this selected group, any effort to bring down the unemployment numbers is a great effore. And remember when employment increases in this group especially, crime decreases. Support the effort.
The suggestion of additional training was given since the epidemic of police killings started last year. But what level of police (re) training can help a police officer who shoots an innocent and unarmed young an eighteen times? And the police administration says it will be business as usual. The public will like to know if this police still carries a weapon . eighteen times, mostly in the back!
