Put the Parliment on Gladstone Road in the same building where they are putting the post office and rebuild the Post Office! Ok so now that you see what a bad decision it was to move the post office ways out there maybe it is time to start looking around for a new Parliment. But are there any records to indicate that parliament was anywhere else other than on the site where it is today? Does the country want to preserve the history of this institution? What about the building across the street that was formerly the Ministry of Finance? It can be rebuilt to include multilevel parking. Or even the former Betty K. site. Then the olf parliament can be turned into a tourist attraction, a library and preserved.
Did Carl Bethel, as Attorney General, just prejudice this case by making the statements he did? ESome people must learn how to remain quiet once they hold certain posts. Remember when in school the teacher use to tell you, "put your fingers on your lips and I don't want anyone talking for any reason."
When the PLP first came to office, they did more in their first term, probably until the time Hubert Ingraham became prime minister decades later. Pindling became vindictive and spiteful and many of his cabinet and MP’s became caught up in the very lucrative drug trade and other activities that caused them tarnished reputations and some even facing jail time. So in the 80’s when money was really flowing in this country, many sought illegal activities since the PLP had such a strong stranglehold on the country and made it impossible for some to do legitimate business. Minnis must be careful as he seeks to revive the inner city that he does not get carried off course misguided or have his plans hijacked by some of the persons he choose to listen to. One in particular, who has gotten a high appointment by Minnis is financially speaking, an idiot. He has a track record of causing an entire Bahamian industry to shut down. using the funds of a very lucrative company at which he was employed to spread lies, propaganda and mistruths about the products these companies sold. He was then forced to leave that company under mysterious circumstances and eventually left the country. Other than that,He has no track record of success in the country as his own business ventures failed. All government taxes have their own penalties included for late and delinquent payments. Don’t go into these poor communities and further disenfranchise individuals and businesses who have been struggling for years to keep the roof over their heads much less the doors open. Pindling allowed City Markets ito come into this country and go in these same neighborhoods and destabilize the market equilibrium. This may not be a case of history repeating itself, but people repeating history.
The old City Market building was purchased years ago under Hubert Ingraham administration. They gutted the building and started to refurbish it. Then the PLP won and the work stopped as the PLP claimed they wanted to make it a two story building. Then the FNM (Ingraham) came back and the building still stood delapidated. And then the PLP came back for five years and still nothing was done. Now Minnis is here and hopefully he will get the building repaired (if the structure is still sound) and finally tax payers can see a return on their money after some twenty years! As for the building on JFK. Next to Paul Adderley building..why is it still unoccupied? Some say furniture problems, others say problems with the structure. But it was started in the PLP’s first year. It cost double what the Paul Adderley building (which also had cost scandals) cost and is still not being utilized. And the building on Blake Road. The PLP was advised NOT to purchase that building (Blake Road) because it was unsuitable for government offices. But they purchased it anyway (apparently to help out a good friend). And after renovations, there it sits, barely utilized.
The Tribune has not yet announced the passing of Apostle Rodney Roberts, pastor of Five Porches Church in the Grove. In his sermon on Sunday past, the bishop warned the Minnis government against increasing taxes on poor Bahamians. And to try to cut government spending and only use tax increases as a last resort. May he Rest In Peace.
It was an historic event. Not only of a black person marrying into royal blood, but a Black bishop being allowed to perform the ceremony. A servant preaching to the masters. And from the body language of even the queen, it was evident the message hit home.
How many Haitians lose their lives trying to get to The Bahamas or the US every year? No one really knows because no one knows how many persons leave that country every year seeking a better life. But in Spain over 18,000 illegal immigrants have crossed into that country from Borth Africa thus far this year. And it is estimated that one of every six persons leaving Africa either drowns or go missing. Some are captured and sold into slavery. So if 18.000 made it safely, some four thousand are unaccounted for. How many Haitians go missing every year? Does anyone even care? Anyone?
