This is no time for the government to sissy around. If it plans to release these share the time to do it is now when Aliv is beating the pants off BTC and the shares have value and growth potential. The market is very volatile and shifts very quickly as customers rally between the phone service providers. Go with the original plan then allow the targeted institutions to sell off to smaller companies and individuals.

Should not come as a surprise. Lot of the Caribbean is still under hurricane reconstruction. But how does the country capitalize by making repeat visitors, extended stays and more spending.

Well @ sheep runners at one point The Grove of East Street was known to be prone to flooding and orders were given that no additional homes could be built in that area. But some 10 to 25 years after the. fact, Pinewood comes along. And even though it was known to be prone to flooding, they allowed houses to built and sold to unsuspecting homeowners who continue to suffer from the flooding problem today. No stop order was ever issued for homes being built in the area or to stop property being sold. Even a requirement by Ministry of Works to raise foundations by two blocks could have saved homeowners thousands of dollars in lost furniture and personal effects and the discomfort of having their homes flooded every other year.

@bitdiestrachan: it would be irresponsible for any government not to take credit for the level of crime in a country in which they have been elected to govern. And while some may argue and statistics may indicate that crime, murders especially, was on a downward trend before Mr. Dames and the FNM came to office, the most sustainable rate and longest period came under the FNM. And for the sake of fairness, most would agree that Dr. Bernard Nottage, former Commissioner, Ellison Greenslade and most all who were on the frontline of fighting crime gave it their all, and some May Day their life even. Crime is no joking matter. And when one (suspected) Bahamian can draw a gun under The brightness of the summer sun and shoot another Bahamian multiple times until he is dead, that should concern all of us. Back in the wild, Wild West time they would send out posses that would’ve brought this murderer back dead, or bring him back to be put to death or ensure he had left the territory. And they would warn all surrounding towns to be on the lookout for the killers and their gangs. It’s not that serious here in the Bahamas today despite the fact that the country has lost over a thousand young men to murder in the past decade. Fortunately law enforcement is appearing to get a grip on things and slow the murder rate down. But if Bahamians did not tolerate it when it first started, it would never have gotten this far.

Well mandatory evacuation orders also avoids liability or the government as is the intention in The United States. In other words if a mandatory evacuation order is given and you chose to ignore it, as the constitution guarantees you the right to do, then through the issuance of the evacuation order, the government excludes itself from any liability from the loss of life and/or injury resulting from any party refusing to obey the order. Some states and counties have gone as far as getting persons who refuse to leave a document indicating that they have been made aware of impending disaster and they have consciously made the decision to stay. Now where it becomes tricky is where minor children are involved and the question must be determined as to who has the greater power: the parents/ guardians or the state. The same applies for the elderly or persons suffering from mental challenges that may cause their judgement to be impaired or not functional. Sometimes this may require going before a judge and getting a specific order to have these persons evacuated for their own safety.

When you talk to persons on the streets about these ‘execution’ style or ‘hit’ killings, they believe that ‘once the word been sent out,’ there’s nothing you can do to save your life. ‘You jes like a dead man walking and eventually they will ‘collect ‘ you.’ So exactly who are the ‘they’ who will eventually collect someone and take his life? Well ‘they ‘ could be anyone. ‘They’ could be the police of someone from foreign or even your own ‘bredren.’ If they have to do the ‘hit’ to save their own life then they will do it. On the streets there’s no where to run and no where to hide. “And it don’t have to be about some ‘vibe’ that jes gone down.’ Sometimes ‘niggas’ let things blow off. They be talking to you every day, hailing you up like erry ting cool. Next thing you hear shots lick off and body stretch out on the ground , in da road, wherever.’ And it doesn’t matter if is day of night. They decide ‘dis nigga run too long’ and time to collect him. Sometimes you may owe people and they give you time. But when that time run out, you gone. Jes like dat.’ And for some it doesn’t matter if it is day or night or who you with. The pressure may be on them to do the hit so they worry about the consequences later. And as long as who you with don’t try get involved they safe. They even ain’t gonna bother them. But if they wanna try play eyewitness then that’s another vibe still. They gonna get deal with.

Has anyone been charged with gun possession over the past 5 months? Anyone who was caught in possession of a firearm other than when they was committing a crime. And did they get the full penalty as is allowed by law. Donald Trump believe that arming more citizens can stop gun crimes. But there have been 21 mass school shootings in the United States this year. The United Kingdom has some of the strictest gun laws in the world. But their murder rate is up 46% this year. Most victims in the U.K., including London, are stabbed to death. There has also been increases in other major crimes including rapes and robberies . Here in the Bahamas, while authorities have achieved a 50% reduction in murders it is unnerving that an individual or gang. Can pull up on another Bahamian in broad daylight and shoot them multiple times until they are dead. Hopefully these persons will be caught and never see the streets of freedom again.

And exactly how effective will this sexual Offenders Registry be in the Bahamas and how effectively will it be enforced? The country is only so big. Yes it is a good thing for repeat offenders but most of the country’s rape and sexual offenders are caught up in mitigating circumstances and where the victims are known to them.

And exactly when did Bahamians go from liking native good to eating everything foreign. Bahamians always wanted native mutton, native pork and native chickens. They said the imported eggs were ‘too watery ‘ And the native limes had more taste. The imported tomatoes tasted like plastic and 30 years ago you couldn’t get Bahamians to Pizza. When they came back from a trip to ‘The ‘States,’ they would say something like ‘Boy I couldn’t wait to get home to eat some real food.’
